Duo to play in third annual event presented by the National Golf Coaches Association
CORAL SPRING, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University women's golfers Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School) and Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada-Richmond Hill) will form one of 50 collegiate teams for the third annual Pure Silk Women's Collegiate Team Championship presented by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA). The event will be held Tuesday through Thursday, July 31-Aug. 2, at Wedgewood Golf and Country Club in Powell, Ohio.
The Eagle duo will play 54 holes during the championship, which will feature an alternate-shot format on the first day, better-ball play on day two, and aggregate scoring on the final day as each player plays her own ball.
Trophies for the championship will be presented to the top five overall teams, the top overall Division II and III teams, and for the best team score during each round.
Fairbairn and Kwon will be one of four Mid-American Conference two-player teams in the field. Other MAC schools participating at the event include: Bowling Green's Bailey Arnold/Shelby Wilson, Ohio's Kristen Helmsdoerfer/Julie Lechner and Toledo's Lauren Stephens/Stephanie St-Jean.
Wedgewood Golf and Country Club is an 18-hole private facility, considered one of the most challenging courses in central Ohio. Opened in 1991, the golf course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr.
On Monday, July 30, a collegiate-amateur golf event will take place, beginning with a 2:30 p.m. shotgun start. Proceeds from this event will benefit A Kid Again, an Ohio based charity that provides fun-filled group activities for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
Tickets to the team championship are free and open to the public. Play will begin each day at 7:30 a.m. ET with tee times on holes No. 1 and No. 10.
