Eagles Complete Second Day of 2012 Outdoor MAC Championships

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's track and field teams finished the second day of competition at the 2012 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships Friday, May 11. The men's team currently sits tied for third place after scoring 43 points in the first two days, while the women's team holds fifth place with 22 points. In first for the men is Akron University with 94 points, while the University of Toledo leads the women's side, collecting 59 points.
Rosie White was able to place third for EMU in the long jump with a 19-feet and 2.75-inch leap, while Victoria Voronko qualified for the 1,500-meter run finals with a 4:32.15 in the preliminaries. Voronko also took fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:49.31. Shantavia Williams had the best time in the 400-meter dash prelims with a 53.23, while Asia Rawls also qualified for Saturday's finals with a 55.31. ReJeana Margina qualified for the finals of the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.89 and Beverly Elcock was the third-best finisher in the 800-meter prelims with a 2:11.52. Williams and Margina also qualified for the 200-meter dash by completing the distance in 24.20 and 24.14, respectively. Rawls qualified for the 400-meter hurdles with a 59.59, the best time in the prelims.
The men's team also had multiple qualifiers as both Cameron Bolton and Jay Saunders made it into the finals of the 200-meter dash with 21.40 and 21.45 finishes. Bolton also qualified for the 400-meter finals with a 48.94 finish and Chris Scott qualified with a 48.82. Saunders took sixth in the 100-meter prelims, qualifying him for the finals on Saturday with a 10.89. Eastern had a pair of runners qualify for the men's 800-meter as Joshua George finished in third with a 1:51.84 in the preliminaries, while Austin Hendrix took sixth in the prelims with a 1:53.70. Fontaine Holland's 54.27 qualified him for the 400-meter hurdles final as the eighth time. Daryl Smith took second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a 9:15.87, while Nick Petro's 9:22.39 was good for fourth.
Max Babits was able to take third in the pole vault with a 16-feet and two-inch leap, while Joe Tesner took fifth after leaping 15-feet and 8.25-inches.
