WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team wrapped up day one of the Boilermaker Invitational Saturday, April 21, here at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in 11th place with a total of 615 (314-301).
The Eagles shot a 314 in the opening round before bouncing back with a 301 in the afternoon. Kent State University and the University of Iowa share the tournament lead with matching score of 11-over par 587.
Sophomore Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) shot the Eagles' best round of the day with a second-round 72, rebounding from an eight-over 80 in the morning to tie for 34th with a total of 152. Zach MacDougall (Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada-Centennial) and Casey Olsen (Okemos, Mich.-Okemos-Oakland University) each grabbed a share of 41st place after two rounds of play, posting a total of 154 on the day.
Derek East (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada-St. Paul's-University of New Orleans) shot a 159 (79-80) to finish the day in a tie for 65th place. Rounding out the rotation, Brian Burt (Dimondale, Mich.-Holt) carded rounds of 84 and 76 for 69th place with a 160.
The final round of the Boilermaker Invitational is set to begin Sunday, April 22, at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. Live scoring will also be available at golfstat.com.
