BELTSVILLE, Md. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team opened day one of the Hoya Invitational in third place in the field of 11 teams, April 2. The Eagles shot a team total of 639 (325-314) on the par-72 Members Club at Four Streams course. Leading the team competition after day one is St. John's University with a two-round total of 635 (316-319).
Senior Shannon Warner (Livonia, Mich.-Livonia Churchill-Michigan State) led the way for EMU on the first day of competition, firing a 155 (80-75) for fifth place. Junior Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School) recorded rounds of 83 and 75 to move into a tie for seventh with a 158. Redshirt sophomore Rushda Mallick (Cape Town, South Africa-Glenwood House-Cape Peninsula University of Technology) added a 162 (79-83) to tie for 20th. Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) and Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) rounded out the lineup with a 167 (86-81) and a 167 (83-84), respectively.
Playing as an individual, Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada-Richmond Hill) notched a 163 (81-82) for a 22nd place tie.
Old Dominion's Elizabeth Haycock carded rounds of 77 and 72 to hold down the day one lead with a five-over par 149.
The Hoya Invitational will resume Tuesday with the third round beginning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
