Softball Hosts A Pair Of Mid-Week Games With Detroit

Eagles will face Titans for 50th time in program history
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University softball team will play host to visiting University of Detroit Mercy tomorrow, April 17 for a pair of non-conference games at Varsity Field. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. and live stats will be available at EMUEagles.com.
Tomorrow will represent EMU's 50th meeting with Detroit in program history. The Eagles own a convincing 43-6 advantage in the all-time series and have not lost to the Titans in 11 seasons, with their last defeat occurring in a 2-1 setback on the road, March 20, 2001.
The two squads last met on March 29, 2011 in a doubleheader at Buysse Ballpark in Detroit, Mich. The Green and White cranked out 30 hits between the two contests en route to a sweep of the Titans by scores of 8-0 and 15-7. McKenna Russ was an offensive force for the Eagles throughout the day's games, notching a perfect 9-for-9 effort on the day. The then-junior went 4-for-4 in game one, sending two over the outfield fence for the first multi-home run game in her career. She would later go 5-for-5 with four RBI in her second consecutive multi-homerun game in game two, scoring three times for EMU. Her five hits also tied the most ever recorded by an EMU softball player, which had not been achieved since the 1994 season.
The Eagles head into tomorrow with a 17-24 record and a 5-7 mark in Mid-American Conference play, while the Titans enter as a 10-28 team with a 2-9 record in the Horizon League. As a team, Detroit is hitting .218 and are led by Sara Cupp's .345 batting average. As a staff, Titan pitchers have allowed opponents to hit .349 on the year. Collaboratively, Detroit's hurlers have posted a 5.29 ERA and are led by Karyn McCarty's (3-8) 5.03 ERA in 87.2 innings of work in the circle.
