Four Eagles finished inside the tournament's top 20

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – Junior Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) fired a 75 to lead the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team Sunday afternoon, April 15, at the rain-shortened Indiana Invitational. Due to weather, the tournament was shortened to an 18-hole event, with all but two or three holes played on Sunday.

Johnson's three-over par was good enough for a seventh place tie in the field of 87 golfers. It marked the ninth career top 10 showing for the Wixom, Mich. native and the sixth time just this season she has done so.

Behind Johnson, senior Shannon Warner (Livonia, Mich.-Livonia Churchill-Michigan State) recorded a 75 for 11th place. Sophomore Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada-Richmond Hill) was tied for 16th with a 77, while junior Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School) finished tied for 28th place with a 78. Rounding out the lineup, Rushda Mallick (Cape Town, South Africa-Glenwood House-Cape Peninsula University of Technology) notched an 84 for 69th place.

Competing as an individual, Corey Crossan (London, Ontario-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) carded a 76 for 11th place and her second top 20 showing of the year.

Indiana posted a 298, with Ball State the runner-up at 305. Eastern Michigan was just a stroke back in third (306), followed by Kansas State (307) and IUPUI (310) in the top five.

Indiana senior Kristtini Cain captured medalist honors at one-over 73 and won a three-hole playoff with teammate Kate Coons, Ball State's Jenna Hague and IUPUI's Lauren Kuss. Coons was eliminated after the first hole, with Cain, Hague and Kuss posting pars on the par-4 17th hole. The three then moved to the 18th hole, where Hague and Cain posted a bogey and Kuss was eliminated.

On the third playoff hole, Cain hit her tee shot down the middle of the fairway, with her second shot just short of the green. The senior nearly picked up an eagle, chipping her third shot to within inches of the hole, but settled for a birdie to win her first individual title as a Hoosier.

EMU returns to action April 27-29 at the Mid-American Conference Championship, held this year at the Hawthorns Golf & Country Club in Fishers, Ind.
