COLUMBUS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team is in ninth place, following the opening 36 holes Saturday of the 15-team Kepler Intercollegiate hosted by Ohio State University, fighting the notoriously difficult Scarlet Course as well as a relentless rain that battered the field for most of the day.
How tough did the Scarlet Course play Saturday? The morning round, which featured on and off rain, saw competitors average a score of 77.48. When the drenching, consistent rains poured down in the afternoon, the student-athletes combined for a 78.83 stroke average on the par-71 course.
EMU carded a 36-hole team score of 47-over 615 (307-208) Saturday, April 14, while No. 36 Indiana and host Ohio State lead the tournament at 31-over par.
Senior Zach MacDougall (Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada-Centennial) is tied for fourth going into the final day of competition. MacDougall carded a seven-over 140 (74-75) on the par-71, 7,455-yard Scarlet Course.
Southern Methodist's Max Buckley leads all individual competitors with a 5-over 147.
The field of 15 will return to the course tomorrow with tee times off Nos. 1 and 10 scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. start time. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
