Softball Slated For BGSU, Toledo This Weekend

Eagles will play two games with both Bowling Green and Toledo on the road

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — After going 1-3 at home last weekend, April 6-8, the Eastern Michigan University softball team will look to get back on track in the Mid-American Conference as the Eagles will take on both Bowling Green and Toledo on the road this weekend, April 13-15.
LAST TIME OUT: The Eagles offense hammered out 12 hits in their most recent contest, defeating Michigan State on the road, 6-3, on April 11. The win snapped a six-year losing streak to the Spartans, as the Eagles last defeated MSU during the 2006 campaign in a 2-0 victory.
In Wednesday's win, five Eagles posted multi-hit games, with Amanda Stanton leading the Eagles with two RBI on a 2-for-3 day at the plate.
Lauren Wells picked up the win for EMU and improves to 3-9 on the year. The lefty hurler tossed 4.1 innings, striking out four while allowing two earned runs on five hits.
Lindsay Rich threw 2.2 shutout innings in relief and picked up her first career save. She would allow just one hit and strike out two.
A LOOK AT THE FALCONS: Bowling Green is currently 22-15 on the year with a 6-2 mark in the MAC. Last weekend, the Falcons went 3-1 in conference contests, splitting with Kent State before sweeping Buffalo on the road. In the Eagles all-time series with BGSU, the Falcons own a 47-36 advantage. The Green and White swept at doubleheader with Bowling Green in their previous meeting on April 8, 2011, taking game one, 1-0, before winning game two, 4-1.
BGSU's offense is currently last in the MAC with a .212 batting average in conference only games, but its pitching staff tops all teams with a 1.81 ERA, holding opposing hitters to just a .278 batting average.
The Falcons have three hitters batting over the .300 mark, with Paige Berger leading her squad with a .305 mark, Hannah Fulk owning a .303 average and Andrea Arney posting a .303 batting average.
In the circle, Jamie Kertes is 2-0 in MAC contests and has not allowed a single earned run against conference opponents. Overall, Paris Imholz leads all BGSU hurlers with her 2.14 ERA in 111.0 innings pitched.
SCOUTING THE ROCKETS: Toledo owns a 10-26 record this season and is currently 3-5 in the Mid-American Conference. In their previous MAC matchups at Buffalo and Kent State, the Rockets split with the Bulls and suffered two losses to the Golden Flashes. Against the Eagles, the Rockets are 43-52 all-time and lost its previous meeting with EMU, 13-1, in five innings on April 9, 2011.
Toledo's offense owns a .287 batting average in MAC contests, good for fourth in the conference, while the UT pitching staff ranks 10th with a 5.54 ERA.
Brooke Gates leads all hitters on her squad with a .325 batting average in 34 starts this season, while teammate Lindsay Tobias has collected a team-high 30 hits on the year.
Casi Rohr has seen the most innings on the mound with 104.1 and is 5-14 in 29 appearances in 2012.
RICHARDS ON THE RUN: Senior Jessica Richards is making strides in the lastest NCAA Division I statistics release. As of April 8, 2012, Richards is currently tied for fifth in the country for stolen bases. At the time of the release, Richards was averaging .81 stolen bases per game (29-of-33 in 36 contests), which matches Jennifer Givens of Tennessee State. To this date, Richards has improved to 31-of-35 in stolen base attempts to bring her career total to 75--the second most all-time by any EMU softball player. Richards speed on the base paths has placed her atop the MAC in both overall games (31-of-35) and conference contests (11-of-12). She has also had multiple swipes in eight separate games this season. Against Central Florida (Feb. 26), Drake (March 9), Buffalo (March 30) and Northern Illinois (April 6) the Canton, Ohio native took three bases in each contest to tie a career best. Three stolen bases in a single contest also ties the second most in a single game by an EMU softball player in program history and is one short of the program record set by Dawn Godfrey against Miami on April 6, 1996. Richards efforts have also contributed to the Eagles' 1.53 stolen bases per game average (57-of-70 in 37 games), which currently ranks 35th in the NCAA.

The 40 two-baggers is sixth on the all-time career records list and is the fourth most for an EMU softball player. The senior is just four doubles shy of breaking the all-time career record, as Melissa Drouillard (93'-96') hit 43 in her career at EMU.
MAC STANDINGS: The Eagles are currently tied for third in the MAC West Division after the Green and White went 1-3 last weekend, splitting with Northern Illinois before being swept by Western Michigan at home. As a team, the Eagles' .222 batting average in conference play is 11th in the MAC. The Green and White are also fourth in home runs (8), second in triples (3), fourth in plate appearances (245), second in walks (33), and leads the league in stolen bases (15).
The EMU pitching staff has struck out 12 looking in MAC play, good for fifth in the conference. The Green and White's 3.43 ERA ranks seventh in the MAC, and EMU hurlers have held opposing hitters to a .269 average in conference games (sixth).

She currently is tied for the most homeruns in MAC play with three, and her 19 total bases is tied for second most. Herron also ranks sixth in RBI (eight), third in total bases (19) and second in slugging percentage, owning a .826 mark in eight games.
In the circle, Lindsay Rich ranks near the top of several catagories. Her 22 strikeouts is the sixth most, while her three wins ties the third-most of all MAC pitchers, and she has held MAC hitters to a .213 in eight appearances, which is fifth-best in the MAC.

Richards also owns a career .313 batting average for the eighth-highest batting average posted by an EMU player.

She is tied with the eigth-most doubles in program history with 28 two-baggers throughout her time as an Eagle. Kaylee Tolliver is currently fifth in fielding percentage (.984), while teammate Nellie Coquillard's 15 round-trippers are the seventh-most in program history.
