Eagles Sit in Eighth After Two Days at the USF Invitational

Brian Churchill-Smith tied for 10th place at one-under for the tournament
DADE CITY, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team continued play Monday afternoon, March 5, at the University of South Florida Invitational. The Eagles combined for a five-over par 293 to sit in eighth place after the second day of the 54-hole tournament, which is being played on the 7,060 yard, par-72 Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City, Fla.
Sophomore Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) recorded a two-under 70 to sit in a tie for 10th place (143). Casey Olsen (Okemos, Mich.-Okemos-Oakland University) was the next best shooter for the Eagles by posting an even-par 72, while Brian Burt (Dimondale, Mich.-Holt) notched a two-over 74 for the second straight day. Zach MacDougall (Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada-Centennial) and Thomas Conway (Jackson, Mich.-Lumen Christi) rounded out the bottom of the lineup with a 77 and 79, respectively.
The No. 16 ranked University of Central Florida shot a 284 in the first round and a 285 in the second to hold a six-shot lead over No. 22 ranked University of Georgia. The individual leader is Louisville's Justin Dorward, who finished the first round with a two-under 70 and the second round with a five-under 67. Dorward's seven-under 137 is two strokes better than Chris Pledger of Arkansas State and Brad Schneider of UCF who sit in second at five-under for the tournament.
