DADE CITY, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team continued the spring portion of the 2011-12 schedule Sunday afternoon, March 4, in fine fashion at the USF Invitational. The Eagles combined for an eight-over par 296 to sit in a tie for seventh place with Troy University after the first day of the 54-hole tournament, which is being played on the 7,060 yard, par-72 Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club course.
Sophomore Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) fired a one-over 73 to sit in a tie for 15th place. Senior Zach MacDougall (Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada -Centennial) and freshman Brian Burt (Dimondale, Mich.Holt) each turned in rounds of 74 for 23rd place. Tommy Conway (Jackson, Mich.-Lumen Christi) and Casey Olsen (Okemos, Mich.-Okemos-Oakland University) rounded out the lineup with a 75 and a 78, respectively.
The University of Central Florida shot a 284 in the first round and holds a five shot lead over Middle Tennessee State University, which shot a 289 for second place. The individual leaders is UCF's Jose Joia, who finished the first round with a seven-under 65.
