HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team stands in eighth place after the first day of competition at the UALR Women's Golf Classic Monday, March 26, here at the Diamante Country Club. The Eagles posted team rounds of 302 and 305 for a total of 607 for the first two rounds.
Senior Shannon Warner (Livonia, Mich.-Livonia Churchill-Michigan State) led the way for the Green and White, firing rounds of 70 and 76 to finish with a 146 and put herself in a tie for fifth place in the individual standings. She is currently three strokes behind leader Crystal Reeves of Oral Roberts, who opened with a one-under par 143 (73-70).
Junior Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) shot a 155 (80-75) and classmate Rushda Mallick (Cape Town, South Africa-Glenwood House-Cape Peninsula University of Technology) shot a 156 (82-74). Junior Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School) and sophomore Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada-Richmond Hill) completed the Eagles' lineup with a 159 in a tie for 71st.
Oral Roberts leads the team race with a score of 596 (295-301). Tulsa and Louisiana-Monroe sits four strokes back in second place, and host UALR and Middle Tennessee State are five strokes back in a tie for fourth place.
Play will conclude with the final 18 holes Tuesday, March 27, at the par 72, 6,034 yard Diamante Country Club course.
