ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)
— The Eastern Michigan University softball team suffered a 10-2 setback to the No. 20-ranked University of Michigan this evening, March 21, at Alumni Field in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Eagles fall to 9-15 on the year, while U-M improves to 18-9 overall.

Despite allowing just one earned run, Jenna Ignowski is issued the loss in 1.2 innings in the circle and falls to 6-3 on the season. The Niles, Mich. native allowed three hits in the contest but did not register a strikeout in her appearance.

Lindsay Rich made a brief outing on the mound before giving way to Lauren Wells who would close out the remaining 1.2 innings of the run-rule shortened contest. Wells struck out one while giving up one run on one hit.

Michigan's Sara Driesenga picks up the win, throwing five innings with three strikeouts.

EMU's offense took advantage of Wolverine miscues to plate both runs in the contest, while the home team strung together eight hits for its 10-run day.

Jessica Richards, Nellie Coquillard and Amanda Herron accounted for the Eagles' offensive production this evening.

The Eagles would strike early in the contest after plating one run in the first. Jessica Richards led off the frame with a single up the middle before stealing her 16th base of the year to put a runner in scoring position for Katy Blaharski. A ground out by Blaharski created time for Richards to advance to third, who would then score on an error by U-M's shortstop Amy Knapp to give the Green and White a 1-0 lead.

The Wolverines retaliated with a two runs to take their first lead of the ballgame in the second, but it would be a five-hit, eight-run third that would break the game open and give the home team a nine-run lead.

In the fourth, Herron belted a double to left, putting runners at second and third for Allison Scherer. The senior lined out, but Coquillard managed to find her way home from third on the home team's second error of the game to cut its lead to eight; however, the Green and White could not overcome its deficit allowing Michigan to earn the 10-2 victory this evening.

EMU will return to action next Tuesday, March 27 for a pair of games at IPFW. First pitch of the first contest is slated for 3 p.m.
