LAREDO, Texas (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team struggled at times during the final round to finish in 13th place at the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club Saturday morning, March 17. The Eagles posted a team score of 306 on Saturday to finish the two-day, 54-hole event at 918 (310-302-306). Lamar won the team title with a score of 870, while No. 31 Baylor finished second at 875. Sophomore Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) was the Eagles' most consistent final-round performer Saturday, firing a one-under par 71. He finished the tournament in a tie for 18th place with a 54-hole mark of 223 (78-74-71).
Louisiana Tech (900), Louisiana-Lafayette (900), Mississippi State (903), Southern Miss (906), VCU (907) and Central Arkansas (908) rounded out the top-10 team leaders.
Lamar's M.J. Daffue earned medalist honors with a score of 211, two strokes ahead of Philipp Fendt of Louisiana Lafayette. Baylor's Mikkel Bjerch Andresen and Xavier Feyaerts of Lamar tied for third at 216.
Following the Border Olympics, the Eagles return to action March 25-26 when they compete at the Arkansas-Little Rock First Tee Invitational in Little Rock, Ark.
