Men's Track Treks to GVSU "Big Meet" This Weekend

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team will be heading to Allendale, Mich. Friday, Feb. 10, to compete in day one of a two-day event at Grand Valley State University. This year marks the fourth straight year that the men have traveled to Allendale for the GVSU “Big Meet”.
The 2012 GVSU “Big Meet” will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, and finishes Saturday, Feb. 11, with more than 50 schools competing. There are over 1,800 entries currently in the meet.
Last year at the “Big Meet” Terefe Ejigu enjoyed success in the one-mile run, taking the top-spot with a 4:04.88, while Clint Allen took second in the 60-meter dash with a 6.81 finish. After the first four events, Kevin Lanier led the pack with a score of 2,965, taking first-place in two events (60-meter dash and high jump) and second-place in the other two events (long jump and shot put). The final three events were completed on day two of the meet. Lanier won the heptathlon with a score of 5,175, just 49 points shy of his EMU record. In the 60-meter dash, Lanier took first-place with a time of 8.25. He also finished eighth in the 1,000-meter run and 10th in the pole vault to secure the win.
