EMU CLOSES OUT SIX-GAME STRETCH VERSUS THE EAST DIVISION: The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team turns its attention to the Mid-American Conference's East Division for the final time in the regular season Saturday, Feb. 11, as the Golden Flashes of Kent State University come to town. Game time is scheduled for 2:06 p.m. at the Convocation Center. The game is the first part of a doubleheader with the EMU men's basketball team, which tangles with Ohio University 30 minutes following the conclusion of the EMU-KSU contest.
The Eagles enter the game with a mark of 16-7 (8-2 MAC), tied with the University of Toledo atop the MAC West Division. Meanwhile, the Golden Flashes are 5-15 (4-6 MAC) after falling to Toledo, 66-55, in Toledo, Ohio, Feb. 4.

A SPOTLIGHT ON THE GOLDEN FLASHES: The Feb. 11 contest marks the 54th meeting between the Golden Flashes and Eagles, who first met during the 1980-81 season. KSU leads the series, 34-19, including winning 24 of the last 33 meetings between the two schools. EMU is currently riding a program-best three-game winning streak in the series, as KSU has never lost four straight meetings against the Green and White.
The Eagles posted a 75-66 victory in the lone regular-season meeting last year at the M.A.C. Center in Kent, Ohio, Feb. 2, 2011. EMU's win snapped KSU's 15-game home winning streak, which at the time was the 13th-longest in the country. Then in the quarterfinal round of the 2011 MAC Tournament, the Eagles dashed the Golden Flashes title hopes with a 69-65 victory at Quickens Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, March 9.

THOMAS JUST MISSES SINGLE-GAME ASSIST RECORD:  Court vision is what most guards work on daily in practice, and lately for sophomore Desyree Thomas it has come naturally. Thomas tallied 13 assists in the 77-66 victory over Miami, Feb. 4, which is tied for the second most in a single game in the program's 36-year history. Betsy Brown holds the record set in 1995 with 14 dimes against Chicago State.

TRIPLE THE TROUBLE AGAINST MIAMI: Olivia Fouty, Paige Redditt and Natachia Watkins each turned in a double-double performance in the team's 11-point victory over the Miami RedHawks, Feb. 4, at the Convocation Center. Wakins poured in 21 points and a career-best 14 rebounds, Redditt finished with a season-high 21 points and 13 caroms, and Fouty managed 12 points and 10 boards.
The trio of double-doubles is thought be to the first occurrence in program history as detailed records of the feat only date back to the 1999-2000 campaign. Since the statistics has been tracked, 21 different players have posted 153 double-doubles for EMU. For the complete list of multiple double-double games, turn to page 28 of these notes.

WORTH WATCHING WATKINS: Sophomore Natachia Watkins continued to impress in leading the Eagles to a perfect 2-0 week with wins over Ohio, Feb. 1, and Miami, Feb. 4. In turning in her second and third double-doubles of her career, she averaged 15.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.0 steals in 36.0 minutes per game. Watkins hauled down a personal-best 14 caroms to go along with 21 points against the RedHawks after a 10 rebound, 10 point performance at Ohio.
During the past three games, the South Euclid, Ohio native is averaging 19.0 points and12.3 rebounds per contest.

JAMES MOVING UP THE MAC LIST: Senior Tavelyn James, the leading scorer in EMU history, is also moving up the Mid-American Conference list. Just the 11th student-athlete in MAC history to surpass the 2,000-point mark in a career, James needs 38 points to pass Bowling Green's Lauren Prochaska (2007-11) for third on the MAC list. For the complete list of her accomplishments, turn to page 2 of these notes.

HOME COURT ADVANTAGE: Eastern Michigan is 8-1 at the Convocation Center this season. The Eagles have won 33 of the last 42 home games dating back to the 2008-09 campaign. Eastern Michigan has racked up a solid home-court advantage inside the friendly confines of the Convocation Center since the doors opened during the 1998-99 campaign. The Green and White has won 70.2 percent of the contests played in the building, piling up a 127-54 all-time mark.

A LOOK BACK AT THE LAST MEETING: Despite giving up a double-digit lead with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game, Eastern Michigan persevered and withstood an offensive onslaught, capturing a 69-65 win over Kent State in the quarterfinals of the FirstEnergy 2011 Mid-American Conference Women's Basketball Tournament at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, Wednesday, March 9.
Sydney Huntley, who was named the game's Most Valuable Player, poured in 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting and added two assists and a pair of rebounds. Tavelyn James also netted 21 points along with four steals, and Cassie Schrock turned in a stellar all-around performance with 16 points, 11 assists, five rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot.
Kent State had three players score in double figures led by Jamilah Humes' 19 points. Ellie Shields chipped-in with 17 points, and Taisja Jones added 15.

JAMES IN SOME RAREFIED COMPANY: Senior Tavelyn James has joined a select group of the most prolific senior scorers in program history. In 23 games, the Detroit native has racked up 544 points. The mark ranks second best in EMU senior laurels. The MAC record for most points by a senior is Western Michigan's Carrie Moore with 813 points in 2006-07.
James also holds the EMU freshman (426), sophomore (641) and junior (642) single-season scoring marks.
