Eagles Capture 60th Consecutive MAC Victory

— The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving program captured its 60th consecutive Mid-American Conference dual meet victory when it defeated Miami, 176.5-123.5, this afternoon in Oxford, Ohio.

The win puts EMU at 4-3 on the season, while Miami drops to 5-6 on the year.

The Eagles took 11 of the day's 16 events to help keep their impressive winning-streak in MAC competition intact. The Green and White have not lost a conference dual-meet since the 1997-98 campaign.

EMU set the tone early in the afternoon's opening 200 medley relay event with a 1-2 finish. Jacob Hanson, Michael Swain, Michael Kinross and Matt Zavislak combined for a 1:33.44, first place finish, while the foursome of Justin Duong, Mike Fisher, Tom Coates and Gus Everson put together a 1:35.65 performance for second.

In the 1,000 freestyle, Troy Esentan led the Eagles' 1-2-3 attack, completing the event with the day's best time of 9:36.00. Franco Petrone touched the wall in second place in 9:40.80, while Gilles Renard took third in 9:47.51. In the 500 free, Matt Zavislak claimed first with his 4:37.76 performance.

Hanson placed garnered the first of his two individual wins in the 100 backstroke. He raced to a 58.05 finish and was followed by teammate Duong in second place (51.52). Hanson later took first in the 200 back when he raced to a 1:48.50 finish. Duong took second in 1:54.48.

Fisher posted the top time in the 100 breaststroke event in 58.05, while Swain and Grant Swartz completed the podium sweep by taking second and third in 58.44 and 58.54, respectively. In the 200 breast, Swain recorded the quickest time in the pool this afternoon with a 2:05.63 effort.

Both of the butterfly events were taken by Kinross. He posted a 50.96 performance in the 100 distance and claimed first in the 200 fly with his time of 1:52.62. Aaron Lawson contributed points in the 200 with a second place, 1:54.98 finish.

The Eagles garnered two runner-up performances on the boards this afternoon. Andrew Saunders placed second in the three meter event (368.78), while Jeffrey Craig took second in the one meter dive with a score of 306.45.

EMU will return to action next weekend, Feb. 11-12, when they head to Columbus, Ohio for the Ohio State Winter Invitational.
