EMu will head to Oxford, Ohio and face the RedHawks for the 43rd time in program history
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team will travel to Oxford, Ohio in search of its 60th-consecutive Mid-American Conference dual-meet victory when it competes with Miami at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center this Saturday, Feb. 4. The meet is slated for an 11 a.m. start and will feature 16 events, including the 200 medley relay, the 200 individual medley and the 400 freestyle relay with the diving events running concurrently.
SEEKING SIXTY: Eastern Michigan will be fighting for its 60th-consecutive Mid-American Conference dual-meet victory this Saturday, Feb. 4. The remarkable streak extends back to the 1997-98 campaign, as the Eagles have not lost a MAC contest since falling to Toledo that season, 113-130. Since that loss, the Green and White has won 59-consecutive MAC meets, earned seven MAC Swimmer of Year Awards, produced 90 individual MAC Champions, turned out 34 different All-MAC athletes and captured 10 MAC Swimming and Diving Championships.
ALL-TIME SERIES: This Saturday, the Eagles will meet the RedHawks for the 43rd time in program history. The two squads first met in the 1964-65 season, where EMU fell to Miami, 24-66. Since then, the Green and White has had much different luck as it leads the all-time series, 32-10. EMU has been victorious in its past 15 matchups, with its last loss occuring in the 1995-96 season when the RedHawks edged the Eagles, 114-127. However, EMU would later redeem itself in that same season when it took home the Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championship. Under Head Coach Peter Linn, the Eagles have posted a 21-2 record against the RedHawks and will look to keep that winning tradition alive this weekend in Oxford, Ohio.
LAST TIME OUT: The men's swimming and diving team last competed on Jan. 20 in a 143-98 win over Wayne State at Jones Natatorium. EMU captured first place in eight of the day's 16 events, with multiple wins by Jacob Hanson in the 200 backstroke and 200 IM. Troy Esentan and Michael Swain took first place in the 500 freestyle and 200 breaststroke, respectively, while Gilles Renard led the way for the Eagles in the 1,000 free. Michael Kinross added another top finish in the 200 fly. The Green and White also swept both the one and three-meter dives that afternoon, as Andrew Saunders placed first in each event.
ON DECK: The Eagles recently added a meet to the 2011-12 schedule, as they will now head to Columbus, Ohio, Feb. 11-12, to compete in the Ohio State Winter Invitational at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. EMU will then take time to prepare for the highly-anticipated 2012 Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, March 1-3, in Oxford, Ohio.
