PEORIA, Ariz.  (EMUEagles.com) -- After a three month layoff, the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team returned to the links and kicked off the 2012 spring season Sunday, Feb. 25, here at the Westbrook Invitational at the par 72 Westbrook Village Golf Club. The Eagles are in seventh place after the first day of action with a team score of 590 (297-293).

The 54-hole tournament, hosted by Wisconsin, features 12 schools, including current leader, Illinois, at six under par. Texas Tech, at four under, is the only other squad under par through the first two rounds.

Eastern Michigan was led by a pair of 72s from senior Shannon Warner (Livonia, Mich.-Livonia Churchill-Michigan State), which puts her in a tie for 10th. Junior Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) is tied for 12th with a 145 (73-72), while Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School) is tied for 27th after carding a 148 (76-72).

Rushda Mallick (Cape Town, South Africa-Glenwood House-Cape Peninsula University of Technology) managed a 153 (76-77), while Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada-Richmond Hill) tallied a 156 (79-77). Playing as an individual, Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) had rounds of 79 and 72 for a tie for 42nd place.

Texas Tech's Gabriella Dominguez and Illinois' Nora Lucas sit tied for the individual lead through two rounds at seven-under par. Hailey Koschmann, also competing for Illinois is one shot off the lead at six-under.

Teams will conclude play at the Westbrook Village Golf Club at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 27, with the final 18 holes of the tournament.
