Ejigu Named MAC Indoor MVP, Eagles Take 4th at Championships

AKRON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team completed the 2012 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships with a fourth place finish Saturday, Feb. 25, scoring 89 points at the meet held at the University of Akron. Host school Akron took the top team spot with 163 points.
EMU's Terefe Ejigu was the standout athlete at the meet, being named the Most Valuable Performer and first team All MAC. Ejigu took first in the 5,000-meter run and the one mile run, while claiming second in the 3,000-meter run. Chris Scott was also named to the All-MAC FirstTeam, while Cameron Bolton and Grzegorz Kalinowski were each named to the second team.
In the final day's action, Scott took the 400-meter dash in 47.95, while Bolton came in second with a 48.02. Bolton was also able to take second in the 200-meter dash with a 21.76 finish. Ejigu defended his 2011 one mile run title with a 4:08.46 time and took second in the 3,000-meter run in 8:37.74. Kalinowski came in second for the mile run after completing the distance in 4:08.81. Levi Selvig took fifth place in the 60-meter hurdles with an 8.42 finish, while Josh George finished second in the 800-meter run with a 1:52.84 and Chris Hall took fifth with a 1:54.02.
"The team competed really well. I am very proud of their competitive efforts and how they represented themselves and EMU Track and Field," remarked Head Coach John Goodridge.
The EMU track and field team beings the 2012 outdoor campaign, March 31, when it travels to Toledo, Ohio for the Toledo Collegiate Challenge.
