Head Coach Scott Hall signs seven newcomers for the 2012 season
YPSILANTI, MIch. (EMUEagles.com)– Eastern Michigan University women's soccer Head Coach Scott Hall has announced the signing of five National Letters of Intent. Jen Bentley (London, Ontario-North London Soccer Club), Sarah Deakin (London, Ontario-North London Soccer Club), Julia Lombardi (Burlington, Ontario-Oakville Soccer Club), Megan McCabe (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Chicago Sockers Soccer Club), Ellie Tillar (Cincinnati, Ohio-Turpin) will all don the Green and White beginning in the 2012 season. In addition Emily Lundh (Canton, Mich.-Plymouth) and Megan Trapp (Plymouth, Mich.-Canton) have accepted offers of admission and will join the squad as well.
“Both assistant coach Joe Malachino and I worked very hard on bringing in a well balanced class that has an inner drive to become better soccer players and top-tier students every year,” said Hall. “We have found that in this class of players and we are very proud they have chosen Eastern Michigan University.”
Bentley is currently a standout with the North London Soccer Club and caught the attention of the EMU coaching staff at the Eagles' prospect camp. “Jen is a player that is very versatile and can play just about anywhere,” remarked Hall. “We were really drawn to her work ethic and ability pick up soccer knowledge quickly. “
Deakin is also a member of the North London squad and will be poised to tally big offensive numbers as a collegiate athlete. “Sarah is a scoring forward,” added Hall. “She will come to EMU and score goals. She is tenacious on the attack and will add to our other young guns up front.”
Adding to Eastern Michigan's young defensive ranks will be Lombardi, who currently plays for the Oakville Soccer Club. “Julia is another player who really stood out at our prospect camp last summer,” remarked Hall. “She is a great defender who is also able to get into the attack with her speed and athleticism. We will count on that with our attacking-style offense.”
Lundh is a local talent playing for the Canton Soccer Club and is an all-around playmaker. “Emily is a crafty forward who finds ways to score goals,” said Hall. “She has a great knack for putting herself in good positions to score herself or to create opportunities for others.”
McCabe will provide stability in goal and comes to EMU with a wealth of postseason experience with the Chicago Sockers Soccer Club which won its regional tournament and competed at the national level last summer. “We like her work ethic and believe she has the ability to be a stand out goalkeeper in the Mid American Conference,” said Hall.
A multi-position talent with the Cincinnati Soccer Alliance, Tillar is expected to fit in nicely with the EMU system. “Ellie flew under the radar in her CSA club because she can play anywhere in a lot of systems,” added Hall. “But we think she will be hard-nosed center mid fielder. We liked that she gets better every time we see her and feel she will become a leader on our team in the years to come”.
Finally, Trapp is a strong defensive presence on the Michigan Rush Football Club and will likely serve that same purpose at EMU. “Megan is a great local product who will become a dominating defensive mid fielder or center back,” remarked Hall. “She has the physical tools to compete at this level and is very good in the air and very brave in the tackle.”
