YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team will play host to the Madonna University Crusdaders Saturday, Nov. 24, at 6:30 p.m. The game is part of a doubleheader that will feature the EMU women's
basketball team taking on Harvard University at 4 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
The Eagles enter the contest on a three-game winning streak, which ties the longest of Head Coach Rob Murphy's career. The Green and White are 4-1 on the season.
HITTING THE AIRWAVES: The Eagles' matchup with Madonna will be the first of many EMU men's basketball contests broadcast on WEMU (89.1 FM) for the 2012-13 campaign. Veteran play-by-play voice Chad Bush will be on the call with Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations, Greg Steiner, serving as the color analyst for the game.
Not only will the audio be available on WEMU for Saturday's game, but a live video feed will be available on Eagle All-Access (subscription-based).
ALL-TIME VERSUS MADONNA: The Eagles and the Crusaders have met just once prior to Saturday's matchup. The last time EMU and Madonna squared off was back on Nov. 17, 2010. Eastern won that game, 79-70, at the Convocation Center.
EMU forward Jamell Harris turned in the first double-double of his career with 15 points and 13 rebounds to go along with seven blocks. Those seven blocks broke a Convocation Center record. The seven blocks also tied for the second-best single-game mark for blocks. Guard Antonio Green added 17 points and Darrell Lampley chipped in 11.
EAGLES SWEEP FIRST EVER EMU “ICE MAN” CLASSIC: The EMU men's basketball team hosted a tournament. The Green and White swept the inaugural EMU “Ice Man” Classic, Nov. 9-21, going 4-0 in the four games they played at the Convo.
Eastern opened the tournament with a 66-52 victory over Rochester College, Nov. 9. After taking a break from the Classic, EMU won three games in three days, topping Eastern Illinois, 60-52, IPFW, 60-47, and Texas-Pan American, 57-47.
THOMPSON NAMED MVP: Senior guard, Derek Thompson, was named the 2012 “Ice Man” Classic Tournament Most Valuable Player Sunday, Nov. 18. Thompson averaged 15 points per game, while shooting 48.8 percent from the field and 44.8 percent from beyond the arc, leading EMU to a sweep of the tournament's field. Defensively, Thompson had a team-high five steals
in the tournament.
HARRISON EARNS ALL-TOURNAMENT HONORS: Akron, Ohio native, Daylen Harrison, was named to the 2012 “Ice Man” Classic All-Tournament Team Sunday, Nov. 18. Harrison posted 13.5 points and six rebounds per game. Not only was Harrison strong offensively, but on the other side of the ball, he picked up a block and four steals in the tournament.
SEEING DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Junior transfer, Daylen Harrison, posted the first double-double of the 2012-13 campaign by an Eagle when he posted 16 points and 12 rebounds against Texas-Pan American, Nov. 18.
SHUFFLING THE STARTING LINEUP: In Eastern's opening two games, the Eagles went 1-1 with its starting rotation. Since switching the lineup to the current configuration of Ross-Thompson-Harrison-Bryant-Riley, the Eagles are 3-0 and they are holding opposing offenses to just 48.7 points per game.
LOOKING FOR .500: Eastern Michigan second year head coach, Rob Murphy, is looking to move to a .500 winning percentage in his short career as a head coach for the first time since Dec. 8, 2011.
