- The Eastern Michigan volleyball squad heads to Geneva, Ohio for first-round Mid-American Tournament action Friday, Nov. 16. The Eagles open up the Tournament with a 7 p.m. match at the SPIRE Sports Complex. EMU opens with No. 2 seed Bowling Green (18-10, 13-3 MAC), whom they have lost to earlier this season. The winner of that match will play against the winner of the No. 3 Western Michigan and No. 6 Central Michigan match Saturday evening at 5 p.m.

12TH STRAIGHT TOURNAMENT APPEARANCE: The Eagles return to the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio for the second straight season Friday, Nov. 16. Eastern will face-off with the second-seeded Bowling Green squad at 7 p.m. This is the 12th-straight Mid-American Conference Volleyball Tournament appearance by EMU, dating back to 2001 when the Eagles took on Ball State and fell in four sets, Nov. 20.

THE LAST DANCE WITH BOWLING GREEN: After leading by two sets, the Eastern Michigan University volleyball team dropped three straight sets to fall at home to the Bowling Green State University Falcons Friday, Oct. 12. The five-set loss (28-26, 25-22, 13-25, 20-25, 11-15) snapped EMU's chances of winning three straight in conference play.

Eastern was led by Kristen Baker who posted a .259 attack percentage (12-5-27). Rachel Iaquaniello led the Eagles with 19 kills, while adding 13 digs. Kim Hildreth posted an average of 10 assists per set, picking up 50 in the match, along with 17 digs. Erin Short earned a double-double by notching 11 kills and 15 digs in the match. Sierra Reed had a team-high 20 digs in the match.

EAGLES DROP TO SEVENTH SEED: After splitting a pair of  matches last weekend, the Eagles dropped from the sixth-seeded team in the 2012 Mid-American Conference Volleyball Tournament to the seventh seed. If Eastern would have been able to defeat Ball State Friday, Nov. 9, it would have entered the tournament as the fifth-seeded team.

SCOUTING THE FALCONS: The Falcons were selected to finish third in the Mid-American Conference East Division, but they completed the 2012 campaign with the second-best record in both the MAC-East and the conference overall. BGSU is 18-10 on the season, and posted a 13-3 record in the MAC. As a team, the Falcons rank fourth in the MAC in opponent hitting percentage (.191). They also rank third in blocks per set (2.27) and fourth in aces per set (1.22).

Paige Penrod ranks third in the Mid-American Conference in kills; she is posting 3.92 kills in 109 sets played this season, while Danielle Tonyan's 3.28 kills per set is good for 10th in the conference. Penrod also averages 0.32 aces per set, good for second in the conference. Other individuals that are making their mark in conference play are Laura Avila, who ranks fifth in the MAC in assists per game at 10.42, and Ashley Dunn, whose 4.32 digs per set is good for eighth in the conference.

IAQUANIELLO TIES CAREER KILLS MARK ON SENIOR NIGHT VICTORY: Senior outside hitter, Rachel Iaquaniello tied a career-high, 33 kills, and also tied the best kill mark in Convocation Center history against Toledo, Nov. 10. The Plymouth, Mich. native set that career-high back in 2010 when she notched 33 against Western Michigan in a five set victory at the Convocation Center, Oct. 8.

BERRINGTON ALL-TIME IN THE MAC TOURNAMENT: Head Volleyball Coach Kim Berrington owns an 8-12 record all-time in the Mid-American Conference Volleyball Tournament. Last season, the Eagles exited the tourney in the first round after losing to Ball State. Her last tournament win came against Bowling Green in straight sets, Nov. 16, 2010. A Berrington-coached volleyball team has not made it past the second round of the MAC Tournament.

VOTE FOR IAQUANIELLO AS SENIOR CLASS AWARD WINNER: Senior volleyball standout, Rachel Iaquaniello, has been selected as one of the finalists for the 2012 Senior CLASS Award. She is one-of-10 Division I collegiate volleyball athletes across the country to be honored as a finalist. Parents and fans can vote for Iaquaniello as the 2012 Senior CLASS Award winner by using the QR code below or going to www.seniorCLASSaward.com. The fan vote accounts for 1/3 of the total vote, while coaches and media member will vote for the other 2/3's. Fans are alloted one vote per day and the fan vote process will continue until Nov. 26. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship, which will take place Dec. 13 and 15 in Louisville, Ky.

BERRINGTON VS THE FALCONS IN THE TOURNAMENT: Since taking over as the head coach in 1996, Kim Berrington has seen Bowling Green in the Mid-American Conference Volleyball Tournament just twice. Berrington has led her Eagles to victory against the Falcons in both of those matches.

She first topped BGSU in 2005, sweeping them in straight sets in the opening round of the tournament, Nov. 18. She again swept Bowling Green in 2010 when the Eagles won their first round match, Nov. 16.

AMONG THE NATIONAL RANKS: Eagles' senior, Rachel Iaquaniello, ranks 17th in the NCAA for the most kills per set. The Plymouth, Mich. native is averaging 4.42 kills per set which trails the national leader Edina Begic of UALR who is averaging 5.12 kills per set. Iaquaniello also ranks 23rd nationally in points per set with 4.92.

As a team, the Green and White ranks 30th nationally in digs per set with 17.51. Penn leads the nation in digs, averaging 21.53 per set.

MORE RECORDS TO BREAK: Eastern Michigan senior, Rachel Iaquaniello, has already set multiple records in her career at EMU but she has a few more in her sights. The Plymouth, Mich. native has 1,275 career digs, which ranks ninth all-time at Eastern. It's the career-sets-played record that Iaquaniello can still reach this season. She currently has played 503 sets in her career, second-most all-time, and 506 is the record held by 2011 senior, Ashley Mason. With 123 career aces, Iaquaniello also ties for eighth all-time in that category. Camila Olaio has the most with 233.

ATOP THE CONFERENCE: Eastern has been near the top of the conference in multiple categories both as a team and individually.

The Eagles lead the conference in digs per set, posting 17.51 digs while Western Michigan trails them in second at 17.48.

Individually, Eastern has a few student-athletes showing off their skills on the hardwood. Rachel Iaquaniello is leading the MAC in kills at 4.42 per set, while also ranking ninth in aces per set at 0.25. Alyssa Davis sits at 10th in the MAC for assists per set, with 7.80 and Sierra Reed is tied for ninth in digs at 4.28 per set.
