Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets to BGSU in MAC Quarterfinal

Eagles eliminated from postseason contention
Geneva, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The No. 7 seed Eastern Michigan University volleyball team fell in three sets to the No. 2 seed Bowling Green State University Falcons (18-25,20-25, 18-25) in MAC Volleyball Tournament quarterfinal action Friday, Nov. 16, at the SPIRE Institute.
With the MAC Tournament loss, EMU ends its 2012 campaign with a 17-15 record. Bowling Green (20-10) advances to the semifinals to face Western Michigan.
Rachel Iaquaniello (Plymouth, Mich.-Dearborn Divine Child) led the Eagles with 10 kills while Alyssa Davis (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Plainwell) added 17 assists throughout the match.
Danielle Tonyan notched the most kills in the contest with 13 for the Falcons. Teammates Lindsey Butterfield and Paige Penrod each added 12 kills as the Falcons outhit the Eagles, 48-28.
Dropping the opening set 18-25, the Eagles struggled offensively posting a .057 (7-5-35) attack percentage. Iaquaniello recorded four kills in the set, and Megan Crawshaw (Mattawan, Mich.-Mattawan) added two kills of her own.
In the second set, the Green and White improved its attacking percentage with a .222 (10-2-36). However, Bowling Green's .265 attacking percentage in the set helped the Falcons edge the Eagles, 25-20.
Bowling Green continued to look strong in the third set as EMU could not start a comeback, falling 18-25. Paige Roback (Maumee, Ohio-Notre Dame Academy) recorded four kills in the final set with a .444 attacking percentage (4-0-9).
The final match of the season also marked the final match for EMU's three seniors: Iaquaniello, Kristen Baker (Mentor, Ohio-Mentor), and Kaitlyn Vincek (South Lyon, Mich.-South Lyon).
