Eastern Michigan ties for seventh place as a team

BEALLSVILLE, Md. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University junior Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) fired a career-low 54-hole tally to finish as the runner-up at the 28th Annual Georgetown Intercollegiate with a four-under par 209 (69-69-71).
Churchill-Smith carded rounds of 69, 69 and 71 to finish one shot behind the University of Toledo' Chris Selfridge. The runner-up finish was the first of his career and his sixth career top 10 showing. Additionally, his back-to-back rounds of 69 pushed his career rounds at par-or-better to 19 in just 74 attempts.
As a team, the Eagles carded a round of 297 on Tuesday to finished in a tie for seventh with West Florida at 29-overpar.
Freshman Brett White (Kentwood, Mich.-East Kentwood) also picked up his first career top 25 finish with a three-day mark of 221 (77-70-74) for 24th place. Tommy Conway (Jackson, Mich.- Lumen Christi) and Josh Heinze (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) each turned in a final round 76 to tie for 42nd place with a 226. Rounding out the lineup, senior Spencer Slade (Saline, Mich.- Saline-Savannah State) finished at 232 (78-77-77) in 58th.
The Eagles will finish the fall portion of their schedule next weekend at the prestigious Bridgestone Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event starts Saturday, Oct. 27, in Greensboro, N.C.
