Fairbairn and Johnson Lead the Way at the MAC Preview

NASHPORT, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- Behind the solid play of Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School) and Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central), the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team finished in third place at the Mid-American Conference Preview with a 36-hole mark of 625 (321-304) Tuesday, Oct. 16, here on the par-72 Longaberger Golf Club course.
Fairbairn finished in second place with a 151 (78-73) and Johnson took eighth with a 154 (80-746), making EMU one of just four teams in the tournament to boast a pair of top 10 finishers. Fairbairn's top five showing was her third of career, while it was the 10th top 10 finish of Johnson's career.
Ball State University won the invitational with a team score of 621 (315-306), three shots in front of Bowling Green State University. BSU's Meghan Perry held on for medalist honors with a 150 (77-73) after a strong charge by EMU's Fairbairn.
Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada -Richmond Hill) finished the event with a 158 (79-79) for a 17th place tie. Rounding out the lineup, Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) and Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) tied for 46th with a two-day total of 164.
Playing as an individual, Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) notched a 170 (93-77) to move up to a 68th place tie.
The Eagles now make the trip west to Manoa, Hawai'i to close out the fall portion of the schedule at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, Oct. 30-31.
