Women's Swimming and Diving Falls To RedHawks

Eagles drop MAC meet despite winning eight of today's 16 events

—The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team dropped its Mid-American Conference matchup to the visiting Miami University RedHawks today, Jan. 27 at Jones Natatorium. The Eagles would fall 167-132 to move to 5-4 on the season with a 2-2 mark in conference competition.

EMU finished first in eight of the day's 16 events, with Briana Emig and Jessie Godlewski earning multiple-first place finishes this evening.

Emig was the top-finisher in the 1,000 Freestyle, completing the distance in 10:24.96 and placed first in the 500 Freestyle in 5:03.51. Emig also posted the programs sixth-fastest time in the 200 Free after taking first in 1:51.04, while teammate Helena Tolic touched the wall at 1:55.02 for a third place effort in that event.

Godlewski won the 200 Butterfly event in 2:03.19—good for the sixth-best mark in EMU records. She was followed by Jacquelyn Swartz in second place who completed the race in 2:04.79. Godlewski also sprinted to a first-place, 52.30 performance in the 100 Freestyle event for the Eagles.

In the backstroke events, Amanda Kiefer placed second in the 100 distance, while Tolic placed second in the 200 with her time of 2:07.96.

Monica Dorszewski, Lauren Kalinosky and Vanessa Weidner scored points in the 100 Breaststroke for the Green and White after finishing 3-4-5, respectively. Dorszewski would later take first in the 200 Breast in 2:22.18, while Kalinosky captured third place in 2:22.99.

Swartz was the fastest in the pool for the 200 Individual Medley. She raced to a first-place, 2:07.41 finish for EMU. Godlewski took second in the event after completing the distance in 2:07.55.

On the boards, Kelly Hendricks posted the second-best score on the three-meter dive with 285.38 points. Lauren Dark would finish fourth in that event after posting a score of 273.38. Danielle Hulvey tallied 296.70 points to take first on the one meter, while Hendricks took third with her score of 289.05.

The Eagles will look to bounce back tomorrow, Jan. 27 when they head to Toledo, Ohio to take on the Rockets in their final meet before the 2012 MAC Swimming and Diving Championships. The meet is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
