Eagles Close Out Regular Season With Setback to Toledo

Emig and Hendricks record first place finishes for the Green and White

TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team dropped its final meet of the regular season to Mid-American Conference opponent Toledo today, Jan. 28. The Eagles fell 107.5-188.5 to the Rockets to close out the regular season at an even 5-5 mark (2-3 MAC).
Briana Emig and Kelly Hendricks were the lone Eagles to collect individual wins this afternoon. Emig was the top performer in the 1,000 and 500 Freestyle events. In the 1,000 Free, the junior raced to a 10:03.37 finish and would later post a time of 4:56.01 in the 500. Emig also owned the top-finish for EMU in the 200 Individual Medley, taking second in 2:07.61.
Hendricks earned her first place finish in the one-meter dive. She tallied 270.07 points for the Green and White, while Melynee Saya took second after posting a score of 242.85 this afternoon. Saya would also finish runner-up on the three-meter boards after a 286.35 performance.
Jessie Godlewski collected three runner-up performances, placing second in the 200 and 100 Freestyle as well as the 100 Butterfly event.
In the backstroke events, Amanda Kiefer was the top-performer for EMU, taking third in the 200 and 100 distances with respective times of 2:09.97 and 1:00.02.
Lauren Kalinosky was second in the 200 Breaststroke after completing the distance in 2:25.25 and would take third in the 100 Breaststroke in 1:07.47. Teammate Monica Dorszewski followed in 1:07.50 for fourth place today.
The Eagles closed out the race with 1-2 finish in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Meghan Richardson, Jacquelyn Swartz, Helena Tolic and Godlewski combined for a 1:39.61 first-place effort, while the foursome of Paige Copeland, Samantha Nameth, Sara Ghaffari and Kalinosky placed second in 1:41.75.
The Eagles will take time off before diving to action at the 2012 MAC Swimming and Diving Championships in Akron, Ohio. The three-day event is slated for Feb. 23-25.
