YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team upended visiting Wayne State this evening, Jan. 20, after each taking eight first-place finishes, leading to a 143-98 win over the Warriors at Jones Natatorium.
Jacob Hanson earned multiple first-place finishes on the day, with top-times in both the 200 Backstroke and 200 Individual Medley. He completed the backstroke event with sixth-fastest time in program history after touching the wall at 1:48.87. He would also pace the Eagles in the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.14, while teammates Michael Swain and Troy Esentan completed the event in third and fourth place, respectively.
Esentan and Swain later captured first place finishes of their own, with Esentan pacing the all competitors in the 500 Freestyle (4:41.02) and Swain completing the 200 Breaststroke in 2:05.33.
In the 1,000 Freestyle event, the Eagles captured the 1-3-4-5 positions with Gilles Renard leading the way in first place at 9:46.88. Sean Tento placed third for the Green and White, while Ricky Linder and Frankie DeMaria took fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Michael Kinross would also contribute with a first place, 1:54.10 finish in the 200 Butterfly event.
EMU would sweep both the one and three-meter boards behind first place performances from Andrew Saunders. He led the Eagles with a 339.30 mark on the one-meter dive and placed first on the three-meter after tallying 345.37 points for the Eagles. Tyler Keelean was runner-up in both events, garnering scores of 283.20 and 299.77 in each respective event.
In both the 200 and 50 Freestyle distances, the Eagles would place 2-3-4 with runner up finishes from Oded Ivry (200 Free: 1:43.73) and Matthew Zavislak (50 Free: 21.63). Franco Petrone and Brian Moore placed 3-4 in the 200, while Jake Heyblom and Dexter Foos took third and fourth in the 50.
The Eagles will take time off before heading to Oxford, Ohio to take on Mid-American Conference rival, Miami, on Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. There they will seek their 60th consecutive MAC dual-meet victory, as the Eagles have not lost a conference meet since the 1997-98 campaign.
