Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at John F. Savage Arena. The Eagles enter the game with a mark of 9-6 (1-1 MAC), a game behind Western Michigan University in the early race for the top spot in the MAC West Division. Meanwhile, the Rockets are 8-6 (1-1 MAC) after upending Central Michigan University, 58-52, in Toledo, Jan. 8.

THE BRIGHT LIGHTS OF TELEVISION: Wednesday's contest will be shown regionally on Buckeye Cable Sports Network (BCSN) with Mike Lacett providing the play-by-play and Allie Clifton serving as the analyst. EMU has posted a record of 1-0 this season on the small-screen and 5-2 over the past two seasons.

Ryan Wooley and Greg Steiner will have the call beginning at 6:50 p.m. from Toledo, Ohio. A SPOTLIGHT ON THE ROCKETS: The Jan. 11 contest marks the 66th meeting between Toledo and Eastern Michigan, who first met during the 1977-1978 season. The Rockets lead the overall series, 41-24, including winning both regular season games last season. However, the Green and White ousted Toledo from the 2011 Mid-American Conference Tournament with a 61-55 victory in the semifinal round at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.
Despite being the Eagles' closest conference opponent at just 49 miles, the Rockets have dominated the all-time series with a 23-8 record inside Savage Arena.

“D” IS THE KEY: Wednesday's game features two teams that pride themselves on defense, with Toledo and Eastern Michigan ranking second and third, respectively, in scoring defense in the Mid-American Conference.  The Eagles have held eight teams this year under 60 points, while the Rockets have accomplished the feat eight times. Against Marygrove, Nov. 14, Eastern's defense stymied the Mustangs, forcing 36 turnovers and 31 points. Meanwhile, Toledo held Albany to just 39 points in a 53-39 victory, Nov. 22.

A LOOK BACK AT THE LAST MEETING WITH TOLEDO: The age-old saying is that it is hard to beat a team three times in a season, and EMU confirmed that by defeating Toledo, 61-55, in the semifinals of the FirstEnergy 2011 Mid-American Conference Tournament Friday, March 11, at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.
Cassie Schrock netted a team-high 20 points for the Eagles, and dished out three assists with a steal and five boards. Paige Redditt notched her fourth double-double of the season and the second in her last three games after scoring 18 on a 7-of-8 shooting performance, while snagging 11 rebounds for EMU.
The Eagles held led wire-to-wire, jumping ahead by as much as 13 points with 2:45 to play in the first half. Back-and-forth action allowed Toledo to remain within striking distance as the Rockets cut their deficit to three, 50-47, with 5:32 left in the game. EMU kept a steady advantage in the closing minutes with strong defense and timely free throw shooting.
From the field, the Eagles shot at a 34.9 percent clip (22-of-63) and were 17-of-21 from the charity stripe. EMU was 0-of-6 from beyond the arc, but used 22 UT turnovers to net 21 points.

STRUGGLING FROM DOWNTOWN: The Eagles' three-point field goal shooting ability has been the team's Achilles heel in 2011-12, as the Eagles are shooting just 23.8 percent from the outside. EMU has made two-or-fewer shots from beyond the long line on six occasions this season and is a combined 3-3 in those contests. The distance change to 20-feet, 8-inches for this season may have contributed to EMU's struggles. At this point during the 2009-10 campaign, EMU was averaged 6.9 long-range shots per game compared to 2.9 this season.

STREAKY FROM THE OUTSIDE: For the third time in the past four games, Eastern Michigan did not connect on a three-point field goal in its the victory over Northern Illinois, Jan. 8. EMU also was held without a three in losses at Seattle (Dec. 30, 2010) and Ball State (Jan. 5, 2011). Eastern Michigan is a combined 5-for-45 from three-point field goal range over the last six contests.

NCAA RANKINGS: The latest NCAA Statistical Rankings came out on Jan. 9 and the Eagles are 10th in the nation (out of 336 eligible teams) in steals per game at 13.9. They are 17th in turnover margin at +6.13, 25th in rebounding margin (+8.0) and 61st in scoring margin (+9.9) . Individually, Tavelyn James is seventh in the nation in scoring with an average of 21.9 points per game and 62nd in free throw percentage per game at 83.8. Desyree Thomas is fifth in the nation with an average of 3.9 steals per game, while Olivia Fouty is 100th in the nation in rebounds with an average of 8.4 per game.

GET THAT SHOT OUTTA HERE: Senior forward Paige Redditt recorded a pair of blocked shots Sunday, Jan. 8, in the victory against Northern Illinois. She upped her career total to 105 and currently stands in second place on the EMU all-time list. Redditt passed Stephanie Smiley who tallied 103 rejections for Eastern from 1998-2002.

FOUTY WITH AUTHORITY: Sophomore forward Olivia Fouty continues to impress with her ability to rebound the basketball. Against Wyoming, Jan. 2, Fouty surpassed her career-high with 15 rebounds in the first half en route to finishing the contest with 18 caroms. The 18 rebounds are tied for seventh most in a single game and are the most by an EMU player since Paige Redditt hauled down 18 against Loyola, Nov. 20, 2011.
Fouty has at least six caroms in 13 of her 15 games this season, and she already has four double-figure rebounding performances (18 vs. Wyoming, 12 vs. UMKC, 12 vs. Michigan, 10 at Detroit).

JAMES MOVING UP ON MAC LIST AS WELL: Senior Tavelyn James, the leading scorer in EMU history, is also moving up the Mid-American Conference list. With a basket at the 10:36 mark of the second half against Wyoming,  Jan. 2, the native of Detroit, Mich, surpassed the 2,000-point mark for her career. James became only the 11th in MAC annals to reach that milestone. For the complete list of her accomplishments, turn to page 2 of these notes.

INTERESTING STATS ABOUT EMU: In its nine victories this season, EMU is averaging 71.9 points while the opposition is posting just 50.9 points. In those games, opponents are shooting 38.7 percent from the field compared to 42.6 percent for the Eagles. In defeats, the Eagles are only scoring 62.0 points, while giving up 68.8. Another factor in the Eagles' success has been the ability to control the glass. EMU is grabbing 41.4 rebounds to just 30.1 for the opponents in the wins, while in setbacks EMU is out-rebounding by only three caroms (41.0 to 38.0).

EMU VERSUS THE MAC: This is EMU's 31st season competing in the Mid-American Conference. The Eagles hold a 207-275 record against conference foes and have posted winning seasons in the MAC in 10 of the last 11 campaigns. EMU has had the most success against Northern Illinois, going 27-9, and the least versus Bowling Green, 14-44. Western Michigan has been the Green and White's most frequent opponent with 69 meetings while Buffalo holds the distinction of the fewest conference games against the Eagles with 18.

LAND OF LINCOLN: The Eagles' have been dominant versus schools from the State of Illinois, posting an 11-game winning streak against the Land of Lincoln dating back to the 2008-09 campaign. Eastern Michigan's last loss to a team that hailed from the state was a 69-62 overtime setback to Northern Illinois, Jan. 17, 2008.

HEARTBREAK AT THE BUZZER: Dating back to an overtime loss at Michigan State on Dec. 3, each of the Eagles' last five losses have been by three points or fewer

WESTERN MICHIGAN ON THE HORIZON: The Jan. 14 contest marks the 70th meeting between the Western Michigan Broncos and Eastern Michigan Eagles, who first played during the 1976-77 season. EMU leads the all-time series, 39-30, and has won 11 of the last 13 meetings.
