Shannon Warner and Mededith Fairbairn tied for sixth place with a 74

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team finished the first round of play at the Nittany Lion Invitational in second place. The Eagles carded a 12-over-par 300 on the 6,229-yard, par-72 Penn State Blue Course.

Senior Shannon Warner (Livonia, Mich.-Livonia Churchill-Michigan State) and junior Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School) led the Green and White in the first round, posting a 74. She is tied for sixth place. Sophomore Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada-Richmond Hill) is tied for 11th place after each notching a thee-over-par.

Juniors Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) and Rushda Mallick (Cape Town, South Africa- Glenwood House-Cape Peninsula University of Technology) are tied for 25th place after a first-round score of 77.

Longwood University led the field the first day with a four-over-par 292. Longwood's Ariel Witmer and Amanda Steinhagen are currently tied for first place, each posting a one-under-par 71.

The tee times for the second round of play, which were scheduled to begin 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, have been changed to a 10 a.m. shotgun start due to anticipated inclement weather. The third round will take place Sunday, Oct. 2, with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
