YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)–
The Eastern Michigan University soccer team continues a four-game stretch against MAC East Division opponents with a pair of home contests Friday, Sept. 30, against Kent State University and Sunday, Oct. 2, against the University at Buffalo. Friday's match is set for 4 p.m. while Sunday's tilt begins at 1 p.m.

LONG WALK HOME: The Green and White (0-8-1) hope to snap an eight-game losing skid and nab its first win of the season in just the second and third home games of the year. The Golden Flashes come in at 7-3-0 and 1-1 in the MAC. The Bulls are 8-2-0 and 1-1 in the MAC.

TAKE 'EM AS THEY COME: Eastern Michigan and Kent State will meet for the 17th time Friday, with the Eagles holding a commanding 11-5-0 advantage in the series including a four-game winning streak dating back to the 2007 campaign.

Sunday will also mark the 17th meeting between EMU and Buffalo, with the Eagles leading that all-time series, 9-4-3. EMU has won the previous two meetings with the Bulls including a 1-0 victory last season.

REASON TO BELIEVE:  Despite a frustrating scoring drought which has lasted nearly a month, the Eagles present a solid young core of players who have had success in the past. Senior co-captain Chelsea Detrick has 19-career goals and 45 points, while sophomore Stephanie Clarke has tallied 15 points (four goals, seven assists) over a career which has span just 30 games.

Freshman forward Angela Vultaggio has provided energy up front and has two of the four EMU goals this season. Fellow newcomer Emily Dzik has been solid for the Eagles in the backfield and has found the back of the net once this year.

YOUR OWN WORST ENEMY: The Eagles are set to host a pair of teams which reside in the upper-half of the standings a highly competitive MAC East Division.

The Golden Flashes enter Friday's game tied for the league lead in goals with 20, but only netted a pair in their first two conference matches in a loss to Bowling Green and a win against Miami.

KSU fields several key playmakers in sophomore forwards Jessacca Gironda and Jaclyn Dutton along with senior goalkeeper Kelly Sherwood. Gironda and Dutton are the team leaders in points with 14 and 12, respectively. Sherwood holds a 7-1 record for the Flashes with a 1.36 goals against average.

A revitalized Buffalo squad has won six of its last seven games, with a loss to Bowling Green and a win against Miami in its first MAC matches. The Miami game marked the team's first conference win since 2009. Eight victories also matches Buffalo's win total from 2008-2010 combined.

Buffalo's success has been largely attributed to its mixture of timely scoring and shut-down defense. The Bulls have allowed just five goals in 10 games and goalkeeper Ainsley Wheldon has a 0.50 goals against average, a .983 save percentage and six shutouts.

Offensively, the Bulls have received scoring contributions from 10 players on their roster with Katie Roberts leading the way with three goals (nine points).

BETTER DAYS: The Green and White started the MAC season on a sour note with a pair of setbacks at Ohio, Sept. 23, and Akron, Sept. 25. EMU was held off the scoreboard in both games, falling 1-0 to the Bobcats and 3-0 to the Zips.

The Bobcats recorded their second straight shutout as well as their first victory against EMU since the 2006 season.

Chelsea Detrick was responsible for two of the five EMU shots on goal with Cara Cutaia, Molli Krick, and Marisa Kozikowski recording the others.

Maggie Manville made 11 saves in a losing effort Sunday against Akron in her seventh straight start. The EMU offense managed just three shots on goal.

ONE STEP UP: As a team, the Eagles rank second in the MAC in total saves with 58 over nine games played (6.44 saves per game). Goalkeeper Maggie Manville is responsible for 43 of those saves, while Rachel Rye accounts for the other 14.

Manville's 43 saves are good for fourth overall in the MAC and her 6.14 saves per contest rank first in the conference.

LONG TIME COMIN': The Eagles enter this weekend's competition on a scoring drought which has span more than five games and 466:57 when freshman Emily Dzik netted her first-career goal in a 2-1 loss to Butler, Sept. 2. EMU has had only one multi-goal game this season, a 2-2 draw at Pittsburgh to open the season, Aug. 19.

LIVIN' IN THE FUTURE: Following this weekend's set of games, the Eagles will have four home dates remaining in the 2011 season. Miami comes to town, Oct. 9, to finish off competition against the MAC East Division.

EMU will then host a trio of divisional opponents including Ball State, Oct. 21, Toledo, Oct. 23, and Central Michigan, Oct. 27.

BOOK OF DREAMS: The Eagles enter the 11-game MAC schedule with aspirations of capturing their second-ever conference championship. EMU last won the title in 1999, when they defeated Miami University on penalty kicks, 5-3.

In 2008, the Green and White breezed past Northern Illinois and CMU with a pair of 2-0 wins to reach the championship game, where No. 1 seed Toledo squeaked by with a 1-0 victory.

Last season, the Eagles fell on penalty kicks to No. 5 Western Michigan at Scicluna Field in the opening round.
