Ejigu Earns Second MAC Runner of the Week Award This Season

The junior paced all participants at the Spartan Invite on Sept. 16 to help land his second MAC Weekly Award
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — For the second time this season, Terefe Ejigu (Mount Cook, Wellington-Wellington College (New Zealand)) of the Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team has been named the Mid-American Conference Cross Country Runner of the Week by the league office today, Sept. 20.
Ejigu earns the award after an impressive showing at the Michigan State Spartan Invitational on Sept. 16. While no team scores were kept at the Spartan Invite, several EMU runners showcased impressive individual performances, most notably Ejigu's first place, 24:23 finish on the 8,000-meter Forest Akers East Golf Course. The junior maintained a 4:55 pace to top a considerable 257-participant field, finishing three seconds ahead of Central Michigan's Tecumseh Adams to take the individual title. Friday's first place finish also marks his second in the 2011 campaign.
Ejigu's previous first place finish this season occurred at the Toledo Rocket Open on Sept. 2, a performance that helped him land his first MAC Runner of the Week Award in 2011.
