EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Making her Eastern Michigan University debut, senior Shannon Warner (Livonia, Mich.-Livonia Churchill-Michigan State) recorded a top-10 showing, finishing in a tie for 10th place finish at the Mary Fossum Invitational here at the par 72, 6,348-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course, Sept. 17-18.
Competing against some of the region's best golfers, the Livonia, Mich. native carded a 73 in the final round to finish with a 228 (76-79-73). The total is tied for Warner's fourth lowest 54 hole score, only bettered by a pair of 216s and a 227 while playing for Michigan State University in 2009-10.
As a team, the Eagles finished ninth with a team score of 942 (304-317-321) as host Michigan State University took home the invitational hardware with an 892 (286-298-308). MSU's Caroline Powers captured medalist honors with a one-over 217 (71-71-75).
Junior Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) gave the Eagles another player among the top 20, after carding a 79 to finish tied for 18th with a 231 (75-77-79). Sophomore Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hills, Ontario, Canada-Richmond Hills) followed with a 242 (77-81-84) while junior Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School) turned in a 245 (76-84-85) for 50th. Sophomore Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) rounded out the lineup with a 246 (81-80-85) for 52th place.
The Eagles are next in action Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at the Nittany Lion Invitational in University Park, Pa.
