Eastern Takes Third Straight with 3-0 Win Over Broncs

EMU moved to 11-2 after their third straight win

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's volleyball team took their third straight match on Saturday, Sept. 17 when they took down the Broncs of Texas-Pan American. The Eagles won their second match of the Robert Morris Holiday Inn Volleyball Classic in straight sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-18).
Eastern improves to 11-2 on the season while the Broncs fell to 1-13 in the 2011 campaign.
Ashley Mason (Eastlake, Ohio-Lake Catholic) paced the Eagles offense by tying her career-high eight kills and adding 22 assists. Rachel Iaquaniello (Plymouth, Mich.-Dearborn Divine Child) recorded a double-double for Eastern with 10 kills and 12 digs in the EMU victory. Paige Roback (Maumee, Ohio-Notre Dame Academy) had six kills while maintaining a .500 attack percentage (6-1-10). She was also able to rack-up four service aces. Haley Stein (Carleton, Mich.-Monroe St. Mary's Catholic Central) had a match-high 17 digs in the Eastern win.
Mason and Roback started out hot in the first set putting up four kills each in the opening frame. Roback maintained a 1.000 attack percentage (4-0-4) in the first set. Iaquaniello and Erin Short (Orrville, Ohio-Orrville) each added a pair of kills in the opening frame to help EMU take the one-set lead.
Mason added four more kills in the second frame to tie her career-high of eight kills, while Iaquaniello also recorded four kills in the second set. Despite just a .079 attack percentage (12-9-38) in the second set, the Eagles were able to take a 2-0 lead.
Iaquaniello led the Eastern offense in the final set adding four more kills to her 10 kill total. Roback added a pair of kills in the final set, while junior Kristen Baker (Mentor, Ohio-Mentor) chipped-in with two of her own en route to the 25-18 set win.
The Eagles continue with their final match of the Robert Morris Holiday Inn Volleyball Classic on Saturday, Sept. 17 against the host Robert Morris Colonial. First-serve is set for 5 p.m. at the Charles L. Seawall Center.
