Men's Cross Country Set for 31st Annual Spartan Invite

The Eagles will return to the Spartan Invitational for the first time since the 2009 season
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team will look to earn its second straight team victory this season when they head to the 31st Annual Spartan Invitational on Friday, Sept. 16 on Michigan State's Campus.
The last time the Eagles competed in the Spartan Invitational dates back to the 2009 season. Then-senior captain, Curtis Vollmar, paced the Green and White with a fifth place finish time of 24:58. His pace of 5:02 helped him earn his second top-five finish of the 2009 campaign.
James Hughes (Manchester, Mich.-Mancehster), then a freshman, placed 12th overall in 25:22 and was the second EMU runner to cross the finish line, while EMU alumnus Josh Karanja led the entire 218-participant field, taking first place in 24:31.
This weekend's men's 8,000-meter race will feature teams from Brecia, Eastern Michigan, Ferris State, Grand Valley State, Hillsdale, Kent State, Lansing Community College, M.M. Track Club, Macomb Community College, Madonna, Michigan State, Michigan State University Club, Mott Community College, Muskegon Community College, Northwood (Mich.), Oakland Community College, Saginaw Valley State, Schoolcraft, Toledo, Michigan (Ann Arbor) Club, Michigan (Dearborn), and Wayne State University.
The event is slated for a 1 p.m. start at the Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich. Admission will be $7 for adults and $3 for children 8 and under. Spectator parking will be available in the MSU Commuter Lot which will provide a bus drop off at the course.
