SUGAR GROVE, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team wrapped up competition at the Northern Intercollegiate Sunday, Sept. 11, here on the par-71 Rich Harvest Farms course. For the 54-hole event, the Eagles shot a cumulative total of 915 (299-307-309) for 10th place.
Central Florida 870 (+18) captured the title, breaking the collegiate tournament record score in the process. The previous mark, 895 (+31), was shared by Louisville's 2006 squad and Tulsa's 2007 NCAA Central Regional championship team.
Individually, Ball State's Tyler Merkel and UCF's Brad Schneider shared top honors, finishing with a score of one-under 212.
For the Eagles, sophomore Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) was the highest finisher, coming in tied for 17th with a score of 223 (71-77-75). It marked his sixth consecutive top 20 finish and the seventh career top 20 showing for Churchill-Smith.
Sophomore Jared Dalga (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Forest Hills Central) fired rounds of 76, 75 and 76 for a total of 227 in 25th place. Junior Casey Olsen (Okemos, Mich.-Okemos-Oakland University) tied for 32nd with a 228 (73-74-81) while Zach MacDougall (Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada-Centennial) and Alex Jones (Dewitt, Mich.-Dewitt) rounded out the line up in 72nd and 77th place, respectively.
Competing as an individual, Derek East (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada-St. Paul's-University of New Orleans) finished in a tie for 53rd with a 233 (76-82-75).
