COLUMBIA, Mo. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University senior Nick Carbary (Kalamazoo, Mich.- Mattawan) continued his strong play with his first top five showing of the season, turning in a tie for fourth place at the Columbia Orthopedic Group Mizzou Intercollegiate here at The Club at Old Hawthorne, April 4-5. Competing against some of the region's best golfers, the Kalamazoo, Mich. native carded a 76 in the final round to finish with a 223 (74-73-76).
As a team, the Eagles finished in second place with a team score of 922 (314-303-305) as host Missouri took home the invitational hardware with a 900 (301-299-300). Nebraska and Xavier finished a strokes back of EMU with a 923 and DePaul, Xavier and Ball State tied for fifth place with a 931. The Tigers' Jace Long captured medalist honors with an even-par 216 (71-71-74). There were 16 teams in the field.
Freshman Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) gave the Eagles another player among the top 10, after carding a 75 to finish tied for 10th with a 229 (76-78-75). Senior Adam Winwood (Epping, Essex, UK-St. Johns-South Mountain CC) followed with a 235 (79-77-79) while Casey Olsen (Okemos, Mich.-Okemos-Oakland University) turned in a 238 (85-78-75) for 51st. Junior Derek East (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada-St. Paul's-University of New Orleans) rounded out the lineup with a 243 (87-75-81) for 64th place.
Eastern Michigan returns home to Ypsilanti before making the trek to Iowa City, Iowa, April 16-17, for the TaylorMade/adidas Invitational.
