YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team will compete at the 2011 Mid-American Conference Championship Friday through Sunday, April 29-May 1, at TPC River's Bend in Maineville, Ohio. The four-day, 72-hole event, will be played at 7,180 yards and to a par-72 for the nine MAC schools which sponsor men's golf – Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Miami, Northern Illinois, Ohio and Toledo.

The tournament, which is hosted by Miami University, will feature 36 holes Friday, 18 holes Saturday and the final 18 holes Sunday. The event is scheduled to begin at 7:45 a.m. each day. The tournament is open to the public and admission is free.

Representing the Eagles at this week's championship will be Nick Carbary (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Mattawan), Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar), Casey Olsen (Okemos, Mich.-Okemos-Oakland University), Derek East (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada-St. Paul's-University of New Orleans) and Jared Dalga (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Forest Hills Central).

The TPC River's Bend is a 7,180 yard par-72 course. It is one of the Tri-State's Premiere Golf Courses having hosted the Champions Tour and the Nationwide Tour in recent years. An Arnold Palmer Design, TPC offers a challenging layout in a dramatic setting. The course highlights include the par-3 5th and 7th holes, which play over hazards to challenging green surfaces.

Despite firing a final round 296, EMU finished as the runner-up with a three-day cumulative score of 1,172 (294-290-292-296) at the 2010 MAC Championship. Kent State captured its second consecutive league title, finishing at two-under par 1,160 (296-282-282-290) on the par 72, 7,243 yard Longaberger Golf Club course.

Cam Burke (Baden, Ontario-Waterloo Secondary) finished in fourth place with a one-under 287 (74-72-70-71) while classmate Marty Jeppesen (Saline, Mich.-Saline) placed sixth with a 293 (71-74-74-74). For his efforts, Burke earned all-tournament team accolades.

The Kent State tandem of Brett Cairns and John Hahn tied for medalist honors with a three-under par total of 283. The pair was followed by teammate Mackenzie Hughes (72-72-70-72=286) in third place.

Battling wet, rainy conditions, Kent State shot four-under par through the first 54 holes and followed that up by turning in a two-over par performance in the final round. Akron finished third with a 1,196, as Miami (1,202), Ohio (1,212), Northern Illinois (1,213), Toledo (1,219), Ball State (1,222) and Bowling Green (1,232) rounded out the team scores.

The winner will receive the MAC's automatic bid to one of six NCAA Regional sites May 19-21. The hosts for the 2011 regional sites are Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, San Diego and Virginia Tech.
