IOWA City, IOWA (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University freshman Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) turned in his fourth top-20 showing of the season, turning in a tie for 17th place at the Hawkeye-TaylorMade Invitational, April 16-17. The Oakville, Ontario native carded a 75 in the final round to finish with a 151 (76-75).
After snow fell on the par 72, 7,180-yard Finkbine Golf Course during Saturday's scheduled 36-holes, the teams saw temperatures hovering in the low-50s with light winds. As a team, the Eagles finished in 10th place with a team score of 615 (315-300) as host Iowa took home the invitational hardware with a 589 (298-291). Charlotte and Missouri finished three strokes back with a 592. The Hawkeyes' Vince India and the 49ers' Andy Sajevic shared medalist honors with a two-under par 142. There were 11 teams in the field.
Senior Nick Carbary (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Mattawan) gave the Eagles another player among the top 30, after carding a 72 to finish tied for 29th with a 153 (81-72). Freshman Jared Dalga (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Forest Hills Central) followed with a 154 (79-75) while junior Derek East (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada-St. Paul's-University of New Orleans) posted a 157 (79-78) for 45th place. Senior Adam Winwood (Epping, Essex, UK-St. Johns-South Mountain CC) rounded out the lineup with a 167 (84-83) for 59th place.
Eastern Michigan returns home to Ypsilanti before making the trek to Columbus, Ohio, April 23-24, for the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate hosted by Ohio State University.
