Nick Carbury's 68 Keeps Eagles in Ninth at USF Invite

DADE CITY, Fla. (EMUEagles.com)– The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team shaved two strokes off its opening round performance for a three-over 291 Saturday afternoon, March 5, to hold on to ninth place at the USF Invitational. The Eagles (293-291=584) sit just three strokes behind eighth place Troy University (581) and four in back of seventh place Florida Gulf Coast University (580) at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club.
Senior Nick Carbary (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Mattawan) shot an impressive three-under 69 to sit at even-par. Carbary's (75-69=144) performance fell just one stroke shy of his season-best score of 68 and earned him a tie for 23rd place after two rounds. A two-over par 72 by Casey Olsen (Okemos, Mich.-Okemos-Oakland University) puts the sophomore four spots behind Carbary and one-over par for the weekend.
Freshman Jared Dalga (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Forest Hills Central) and sophomore Bradley Altenhoff (Oakville, Ontario-White Oaks Secondary) also turned-in rounds of 74 Saturday. Dalga (72-74=176) is currently tied for 31st place while Altenhoff holds a tie for 62nd. Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada- Oakville Trafalgar) finds himself tied for 72nd after day two after a six-over 78.
Middle Tennessee State University (274-277=551) remains in first place with a commanding 20-shot lead over second place University of North Texas. Rounding out the top-five are Villanova University (573), Florida State University (574) and Arkansas State University (574).
