Men's Golf Tied For Ninth In First Action of the Spring

DADE CITY, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team opened up the spring portion of the 2010-11 schedule Friday afternoon, March 4, in fine fashion at the USF Invitational. The Eagles combined for a five-over par 293 to sit in a tie for ninth place with the University of Central Florida and Jacksonville State University after the first day of the 54-hole tournament, which is being played on the 7,060 yard, par-72 Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club.
Sophomore Casey Olsen (Okemos, Mich.-Okemos-Oakland University) fired a one-under 70 to sit in a tie for 16th place. Freshman Jared Dalga (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Forest Hills Central) notched a round of par 70 for 21st place. Senior Nick Carbary (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Mattawan) and freshman Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada- Oakville Trafalgar) turned in rounds of 74 for 47th place. Sophomore Bradley Altenhoff (Oakville, Ontario-White Oaks Secondary) rounded out the lineup with a 77 for 74th place.
Middle Tennessee State University shot a 274 in the first round and holds a six shot lead over the University of North Texas, which shot a 280 for second place. The individual leaders are Conor Casey (Villanova University), Brad Simons (Middle Tennessee St.), Hunter Green (Middle Tennessee St.) and Carlos Ortiz (North Florida) all finished the first round with a five-under 67.
