Despite season-high team score, EMU drops final regular season meet

- Despite a season high team score, the Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team dropped its final regular season contest Saturday, March 12, at the Eagle Invitational to Kent State University, 194.025-194.900.

The Eagles represented a different color at the invitational, in an effort to “Go Pink”.  The gymnastics team raised money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation to help contribute to the research of finding a cure.

With the loss the Eagles fall to 4-10 (2-4 MAC), while the Golden Flashes improve to 11-2-1 (5-1 MAC).

Eastern outscored Kent State on only the floor exercise recording a 48.625 over KSU's 48.625. The Golden Flashes outscored the Eagles on the vault, bars and balance beam en route to their fifth Mid-American Conference victory.

Freshman Miranda Jarvis (Westminster, Md.-Westminster) had an outstanding performance recording a career-high 9.850 earning her a first place finish on the floor exercise. She also matched her career-high on the balance beam posting a 9.700 finishing tied for sixth. Jarvis tied for seventh on the vault tallying a 9.650.

Senior Nikole Viltz (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.-Carmel) finished first on the vault in a three-way tie recording a 9.800. At her final meet at Eastern Michigan the senior recorded a career-high 9.825 on the balance beam earning her a third place finish and a 9.650 on the floor exercise.

Junior Stacie Wood (Brantford, Ont.-Brantford Collegiate Inst.) set a career-high record earning a 9.775 on the uneven parallel bars good for fifth place. Wood tallied a 9.725 on the floor exercise finishing tied for third with junior Kristen Yourick (Albuquerque, N.M.-La Cueva). Yourick also recorded a career-high earning a 9.750 on the bars finishing tied for sixth with freshman Taylor Patterson (Xenia, Ohio-Xenia).

Senior Grace Crouch (Bellbrook, Ohio-Salisbury Composite) hit a career-best mark on the balance beam, as her 9.775 was good for fifth overall in the competition.

Up next the Eagles travel to Mount Pleasant, Mich. to compete at the Mid-American Conference Championships. It will be held at McGuirk Arena with the first event starting at 2 p.m.
