Eagles Take Sixth at MAC Championship

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)- In its final competition of the season, the Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team finished in sixth place at the 2011 Mid-American Conference Gymnastics Championship at McGuirk Arena Saturday afternoon, March 19, as the Eagles tallied a team score of 192.425.

The Chippewas of Central Michigan University took home the title with a score of 195.900, followed by Kent State (195.050), Western Michigan (194.150), Ball State (193.175), Bowling Green (192.900), EMU (192.425) and Northern Illinois University (191.475).

Senior Nikole Viltz (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.-Carmel) led the Eagles in the competition as she has done all season long, finishing tied for fourth on the vault posting a 9.825. She also tallied a 9.800 on the balance beam good for a four-way third place tie. Viltz carded the high mark of the afternoon for the Eagles, as her 9.800 on the floor exercise helped EMU to a 48.350 team score.

Sophomore Kristina Kurkmilis (Eagleville, Pa.-Methacton) had a solid performance posting a 9.750 on the vault finishing in 13th. Just behind Kurkmilis was Freshman Ashley Quinton (Calgary, Canada-Bishop Menally) who recorded a 9.700 and a 19th place victory.

Junior Stacie Wood (Brantford, Ont.-Brantford Collegiate Inst.) had EMU's highest mark on the uneven parallel bars, as her 9.650 helped the Eagles finish with a team score of 47.625 on the bars. Wood also tallied a 9.625 on the floor exercise.

Seniors Grace Crouch (Bellbrook, Ohio-Salisbury Composite) and Jessica Perdoch (Reading, Pa.-Exeter Township) had a strong last performance for the Eagles on the balance beam posting a 9.575 and 9.350, respectfully.

Sophomore Camille Cicchini (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.-Royal Palm Beach Community) represented for the Green and White earning a 9.625 on the bars while freshman Miranda Jarvis (Westminster, Md.-Westminster) posted a 9.675 on the balance beam and a 9.650 on the floor exercise.
