PINEHURST, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University's men's golf team placed ninth at the three-day Pinehurst Intercollegiate, which concluded Sunday, March 13. After rounds of 291 and 303 on Friday and Saturday, EMU finished with a 306 in the final round. Eastern's three-round total of 900 was two shots better than Marshall University and Xavier University who tied for 10th place.
The 16-team event was contested on the par-71 Pinehurst No. 6 course.
After holding down the top spot on the leader board after day two, sophomore Casey Olsen (Okemos, Mich.-Okemos-Oakland University) finished with a round of 72 in a tie for third place with a 213 (72-69-72). The Okemos, Mich. native's three-day total is the best of his short EMU career, bettering a 49th place showing just a week ago at the USF Invitational, March 4-6.
Freshman Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) tied for 12th place with a 54-hole mark of 218 (69-74-75).
UNC Wilmington (873) won the team title by six shots over Virginia Tech (879). Penn State (882) and Virginia Commonwealth (882) tied for third.
The Eagles will be back in action March 25-27 at the FAU Spring Break Championship in Del Ray Beach, Fla.
