EAGLES BACK IN MAC SEMIFINALS: The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team returns to the court Friday afternoon, March 11, squaring off with the Rockets of the University of Toledo in the semifinals of the 2011 Mid-American Conference Tournament at Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena. The Eagles, who advanced to the semifinals for the fist time since 2007, sport a 21-11 mark while the Rockets boast a 23-7 record. The contest will be shown locally on Comcast Television, digital cable channel 900 in the Ypsilanti area. Mike Cairns will handle the play-by-play and Jacki Windon adds analysis for the women's semifinal.
Eastern is 15-16 all-time in 18 trips to the MAC Tournament. Eastern is 12-12 all-time in 14 trips to the MAC Tournament, while Toledo boasts a 44-19 mark in MAC postseason play. The 1999-2000 campaign marked the first season that all teams qualified for the tournament.

SIXTH SEMIFINAL APPEARANCE: For the first time since the 2006-07 season and the sixth time overall, the Eagles have advanced to the semifinals of the MAC Tournament. All of EMU's semifinal appearances have occurred since the 2000 tournament, with the Green and White holding a 1-4 record in those contests.

ALL-TIME AGAINST TEAMS IN THE TOURNAMENT: The Eagles sport a 15-16 mark in 18 trips to the conference postseason and are making their fourth under Head Coach AnnMarie Gilbert. The Eagles have faced Bowling Green (2-4) the most times of any squad in the tournament. Eastern is 2-2 versus Ohio, 2-1 against Toledo, 2-2 versus Miami and 1-3 versus Kent State. Eastern is 1-1 in postseason play versus Ball State and Northern Illinois. The Green and White are 2-0 against Buffalo and winless in only one attempt against Akron and Western Michigan. EMU was 2-0 versus Marshall in tournament play before the Thundering Herd departed for Conference USA.

THIRD-BEST RECORD IN THE MAC TOURNAMENT: During the past eight Mid-American Conference Tournaments dating back to the 2004 championship, Eastern Michigan has posted a 10-6 mark, the third-best record over that span. EMU was 3-0 in 2004, 2-1 in 2005, 1-1 in 2006 and 2007, 0-1 on 2008 and 2009, and 1-1 in 2010. Bowling Green is 19-3 over that time while Toledo is 11-7, Ball State is 9-7 and Kent State is 6-8.

EMU AT THE 'Q': The Eagles are very familiar with the Quicken Loans Arena floor, as they have posted a 7-7 record, including capturing the 2004 championship, at the former Gund Arena.

SCHROCK SETS RECORD FOR GAMES PLAYED: Senior Cassie Schrock has played in 121 games during her four-year career, surpassing the trio of Nikki Knapp (2002-06), Melis Ulker (2002-06) and Sarah VanMetre (2003-07) for the all-time record for the most games played in an EMU uniform. Knapp, Ulker and VanMetre all played in 120 contests for then-Head Coach Suzy Merchant.

THE SERIES WITH TOLEDO: The March 11 contest marks the 64th meeting between Toledo and Eastern Michigan, who first met during the 1977-1978 season. The Rockets lead the overall series, 40-23, including sweeping the season series with a 72-56 win at the EMU Convocation Center, Jan. 15, along with a 65-64 heart-stopping victory at Savage Arena, Feb. 23, in Toledo, Ohio.
Despite being the Eagles' closest conference opponent at just 49 miles, the teams have not meet in the postseason since the 2004 MAC quarterfinal round when the Eagles notched a 60-47 victory en route to capturing the school's first NCAA Tournament berth. The Midnight Blue and Gold's only victory over EMU occurred in the quarterfinals of the 1997 Tournament, with Toledo recording an 86-74 win at then-Savage Hall in the Glass City.

FIFTH 20-WIN SEASON: With its 82-74 victory over Miami, March 5, the Eagles picked up their fifth 20-win season in the past eight campaigns. Prior to the 2003-04 year, Eastern Michigan had never won more than 18 games in a single season.

A LOOK BACK AT THE LAST MEETING WITH TOLEDO: Despite a combined 44 points from Cassie Schrock and Tavelyn James, the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team could not survive a second-half rally by the University of Toledo, Feb. 23, at Savage Arena. Rocket standout Naama Shafir poured in a season-high 32 points, including a buzzer-beating three-point bomb with just under a minute to play, to push UT to the heart-stopping 65-64 victory.
Shafir was the driving force for the Midnight Blue and Gold, who trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half. The Rockets would battle back though, recording their first lead since the opening basket of the game when Shafir hit a pair of free throws with 12:13 to play to go on top by a score of 45-44.
Neither side was willing to give in, as they battled toe-to-toe from that point on and exchanged the lead three more times until the final minute. EMU knotted it at 62-all tie on a jumper by India Hairston with 3:23 to play. The score remained tied until Shafir knocked down a trilighter with two seconds on the shot clock to give Toledo the 65-62 edge with 57 seconds remaining.
Kristin Thomas answered with a layup to cut the advantage to one, 65-64, with 37 seconds still showing on the clock.
UT's Melissa Goodall missed a three-point field-goal attempt as the shot clock was winding down and eight seconds remaining on the clock. EMU's Thomas and Toledo's Lecretia Smith both came down with the rock, but the Rockets were awarded the ball via the alternating possession arrow. Toledo was then able to run out the clock and secure the one-point decision.
Schrock finished with a team-best 23 points on 8-of-17 shooting, but struggled at the free throw line making just seven of 14 attempts. She also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out seven assists in 38 minutes of work. James notched 21 points, scoring 16 in the opening 20 minutes of work, and Paige Redditt tossed in eight.
Shafir made 14-of-15 free throws to go along with a team-high seven assists. Yolanda Richardson was the only other Rocket in double figures with 10 points off the bench.
