YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)- The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team is set to take on the Broncos of Western Michigan University Friday, Feb. 4. The contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. at University Arena. The meet will mark WMU's first home meet and will honor all men and women who have and continue to serve our country as part of Military Appreciation Day.

BACK IN ACTION: The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team is back in action with another Mid-American Conference meet, this time taking on the Broncos of Western Michigan University. The Green and White travel to Kalamazoo, Mich. Friday, Feb. 4. The first event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m and it will be Military Appreciation Day. The Broncos are coming off their first MAC contest, defeating Bowling Green, but falling to Ohio State in the three-team meet. The Eagles last competed against the Broncos at the Eagle Invitational, March 14, 2010, where they finished in first place, while WMU took third. Amanda Fuller finished fourth on the vault with a score of 9.600, followed by Mickayla Balow tying for seventh tallying a 9.550. Erin Grigg and Stacie Wood tied with a score of 9.700, earning third place honors on the uneven parallel bars.

RECORD SETTING PERFORMANCE: The Eagles came up just over a point shy against Ball State University Saturday, Jan. 29, at Bowen Field House in the annual “Beauty and the Beast” showcase as the Eagles fell, 192.625-191.075. Senior Nikole Viltz set the pace for the Green and White finishing second on the vault and balance beam posting scores of 9.675 and 9.960, respectively. The Eagles had a record setting afternoon starting with sophomore Kristina Kurkmilis recording a career best 9.625 finishing tied for third with BSU's Nicole Allen on the vault. Kurkmilis also tallied a 9.450 on the floor exercise. Junior Tracie Tamashiro and sophomore Camille Cicchini also recorded career best performances, tallying a 9.675, receiving a tie for third place on the parallel bars. Tamashiro also earned a 9.025 on the beam.

UP NEXT: Eastern follows with another home meet taking on Bowling Green State University, Feb. 12. BGSU was victorious the last time the two teams met up at Anderson Arena, 193.175-191.875, Feb. 21, 2010. Erin Grigg finished fourth all-around with a 37.550, as she and teammate Nikole Viltz tied for second overall with a 9.775 on the vault. Grigg also posted a 9.650 in the floor exercise, 9.075 on the balance beam and a 9.050 on the uneven parallel bars. Along with her impressive score on the vault, Viltz carded a 9.600 on the balance beam to finish sixth in the competition.
