Eagles Improve To Fourth After Day Two of MAC Action

The Eagles sit in fourth place with 160 points after the second day of MAC action

ATHENS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)—After day two of the Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in Athens, Ohio, the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team improves to fourth place with 160 points through seven events.
Briana Emig (Sewickley, Pa.-Ambridge) took home a third place medal for the Green and White with her time of 4:46.78 in the 500 freestyle final. Her time broke the Ohio pool record of 4:48.00 and also represents a career best.
In the 200 IM, Jacquelyn Swartz (Centerville, Ohio-Centerville) scored points for the Eagles as she placed seventh with her season best time of 2:03.23, while Sarah Kowalski's (Muncie, Ind.-Yorktown) 50 freestyle performance of 23.10 bested a pool record and also earned her a fifth place finish. Not only was it a top season performance for the senior, but it also represents the fastest time in her career for the 50 freestyle.
The duo of Lesley Vizurraga (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Forest Hills Central) and Kelly Hendricks (Schaumburg, Ill.-Conant) went 3-4 on the one-meter dive. Vizurraga tallied 282.40 points for a third pace medal, while Hendricks earned 272.65 points in fourth place for EMU. Christina Nunez-Wood (Denver, Colo.-Bear Creek) came in sixth for the Eagles with a 250.55 effort.
The team of Kowalski, Samatha Nameth (Mentor, Ohio-Mentor), Swartz, and Tracy Morgan (Strongsville, Ohio-Strongsville) closed out the evening, combining for a seventh-place time of 1:34.36 in the 200 Medley Relay.
The Eagles return to action for the third day of events tomorrow, Feb. 25. The first session will feature preliminary heats for the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, three meter diving, and the 400 medley relay. The second session of the day will include the consolation and championship finals for those events.
