EASTERN TREKS TO MOUNT PLEASANT FOR THE FINAL ROAD TRIP OF THE YEAR: The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team hits the road for the final time in the regular season Saturday, Feb. 26, for a Mid-American Conference West Division tilt against Central Michigan University. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. inside McGuirk Arena in Mount Pleasant, Mich. Additionally, the game is the first part of a doubleheader with the CMU men's basketball team, who tangle with Ball State University 30 minutes following the conclusion of the women's contest.
The Eagles enter the game with a mark of 18-10 (9-5 MAC) and are currently projected to be the fifth seed in the upcoming MAC Tournament. Meanwhile, the Chippewas are 18-8 (10-4 MAC) and hold a one-game edge over EMU in second place in the MAC West Division standings.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES: The Feb. 26 contest marks the 67th meeting between the Chippewas and Eagles, who first met during the 1976-77 season. CMU leads the overall series, 36-30, but EMU has won 17 of the last 21 meetings dating back to the 2000-01 campaign.
Central Michigan recorded a 76-67 victory in the earlier meeting this season at the Convocation Center, Jan. 12. The EMU backcourt tandem of Tavelyn James and Sydney Huntley led the Eagles with 18 points each while Cassie Schrock scored 15. Central was led by Shonda Long with 22 while Brandi Baker added 17, Kaihla Szunko 16 and Niki DiGuilio chipped in 10.
Eastern shot just 33.9 percent from the field on 20-of-59 shooting, while CMU hit 26-of-58 shots for 44.8 percent. The Eagles were a dismal 1-of-15 from beyond the three-point arc for 6.7 percent, while CMU hit 8-of-20 triples for 40 percent. Central also won the board battle, 44-36.

AND DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME: Following Saturday's game, EMU returns home to host Western Michigan Wednesday, March 2, in the regular season finale at the Convocation Center. After the game, the Eagles will honor seniors Sydney Huntley, Tara Johnson, Cassie Schrock, Raina Spencer, Kristin Thomas and De'Ja Wills
The Rockets hold a three-game lead atop the MAC West Division and have already clinched the division title and the top seed in the MAC Tournament with the 65-64 victory over Eastern Michigan, Feb. 23, at Savage Arena. Central Michigan resides in second place with a 10-4 record, but just a game in front of Eastern Michigan. If the Chippewas and Eagles finish with identical conference marks, CMU would hold the tie breaker in a seeding situation thanks to a 78-74 victory over the Rockets, Jan. 19, while EMU suffered the season sweep to the Midnight Blue and Gold.

SCHROCK-ING STAT: Senior Cassie Schrock is the only player in the Mid-American Conference to currently rank in the top 10 in the league in each scoring, rebounding and assists. Schrock is second in the MAC at 5.36 assists per game, while seventh in rebounding (7.4 rpg) and 10th in scoring (15.1 ppg).

ROAD WARRIORS: The Eagles are 6-1 in MAC road contests this season, and have won 11 of their last 15 conference away games dating back to the 2009-10 campaign. Eastern Michigan has posted decisive victories away from the Convocation Center, winning by an average of nearly 10 points (EMU 71.7, OPP 61.8) with its closest triumph being just five, 56-51, at Akron, Jan. 22. EMU's The lone blemish was a heart-stopping 65-64 loss at West Division champion Toledo, Feb. 23.

A LOOK BACK AT THE LAST MEETING IN MOUNT PLEASANT: It was an instant classic at the Rose Center, however, it was Eastern Michigan on the short side of the 113-107 double-overtime decision at Central Michigan, Feb. 20, 2010. The contest, which featured 40 lead changes and 24 ties, saw the Eagles and Chippewas combine for 220 points to break the Mid-American Conference record for most combined points in a league contest. The previous standard of 214 points in a 121-93 victory by BQowling Green over Kent State, Feb. 23, 1991, had stood for 19 seasons.
It also marked the first time in EMU history both teams had scored more than 100 points, and it bested the 191 combined points between EMU (93) and BGSU (98) in another double overtime thriller, ironically exactly 11 years to the date, Feb. 20, 1999, at Anderson Arena in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Defense for both teams was at a premium, with the teams exchanging scores nearly every trip down the court. Eastern Michigan finished the contest 37-of-77 from the field, including equaling the school record with 16 three-point field goals, for a 48.1 percent clip.

NO HOOP FOR YOU: Eastern Michigan is allowing its opponents to convert a league-low 36.3 percent from the floor and holding them to the third-lowest point total per game in the MAC at 59.6 ppg. The Eagles limited Northern Illinois to a frigid 20.0 percent (12-of-60) from the floor Saturday, Feb. 19, to claim the 62-35 home victory. NIU's 35 points were the sixth-fewest scored in Convocation Center history. The output was the second-least in a conference contest this season, only surpassed by the Huskies' 31 point effort at Toledo, Jan. 12. Additionally, EMU's outstanding defensive effort against NIU marked the fifth time it has held an opponent under 42 points in 2010-11.

ON THE HORIZON: The March 2 contest at the Convocation Center in Ypsilanti, Mich. marks the 69th meeting between the Western Michigan Broncos and Eastern Michigan Eagles, who first played during the 1976-77 season. EMU leads the all-time series, 38-30, and has won 10 of the last 12 meetings.

THE MOST RANDOM NOTE OF THE WEEK: They say that broadcasters do not effect the outcome of games, but we may need to reconsider that fact when looking at the Eagles in 2010-11. The Green and White are 6-2 when Ryan Wooley is behind the microphone on Eagle All-Access and they are 3-0 when Dan Gutowsky calls the action on the court. Meanwhile, Chad Bush and Jeff Fulton have carried the Eagles to just a 5-5 mark on the airwaves of WEMU (89.1 FM). Eastern Michigan is 4-2 when the game is not broadcast on any medium.
