EMU EMBARKS ON CRITICAL FINAL REGULAR-SEASON ROAD SWING: With just three games remaining in the regular season, the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team hits the road for a pair of critical road contests, at the University of Toledo, Feb. 23, and Central Michigan University, Feb. 26. Despite its slim chances for a share of the Mid-American Conference West Division title, EMU still controls its own destiny in the race for a first-round bye in the upcoming MAC Tournament, March 5, with the league's two division champions and next two best records advancing directly to the quarterfinal round at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, March 9.

SETTING THE SCENE: Fresh off a 62-35 victory over Northern Illinois University, the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team hits the road Wednesday, Feb. 23, for a Mid-American Conference West Division showdown at the University of Toledo. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Savage Arena in Toledo, Ohio.
The Eagles enter the game with a mark of 18-9 (9-4 MAC), tied for second place in the MAC's West Division with Central Michigan. Meanwhile, the Rockets have already secured at least a share of the MAC West title with a 67-49 victory over Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., Feb. 19. Toledo boasts a 12-1 league mark and a 20-7 overall record.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES: The Feb. 23 contest marks the 63rd meeting between Toledo and Eastern Michigan, who first met during the 1977-1978 season. The Rockets lead the overall series, 39-23, including notching a 72-56 win in the earlier meeting this season at the Convocation Center, Jan. 15.
Despite being the Eagles' closest conference opponent at just 49 miles, the Rockets have dominated the all-time series with a 22-8 record inside Savage Arena. Of late though, that luck has begun to change, with EMU winning three of the last five dating back to the 2005-06 campaign.

ROAD WARRIORS: The Eagles are a perfect 6-0 in MAC road contests this season, and have won 11 of their last 14 conference away games dating back to the 2009-10 campaign. Eastern Michigan has posted decisive victories away from the Convocation Center, winning by an averaged of nearly 10 points (EMU 71.7, OPP 61.8) with its closest triumph being just five, 56-51, at Akron, Jan. 22.
Meanwhile, the Toledo Rockets are 11-1 this season at Savage Arena, including a perfect 6-0 in league play.

NO HOOP FOR YOU: Eastern Michigan is allowing its opponents to convert a league-low 36.3 percent from the floor and holding them to the third-lowest point total per game in the MAC at 59.4 ppg. The Eagles limited Northern Illinois to a frigid 20.0 percent (12-of-60) from the floor Saturday, Feb. 19, to claim the 62-35 home victory. NIU's 35 points were the sixth-fewest scored in Convocation Center history. The output was the second-least in a conference contest this season, only surpassed by the Huskies' 31 point effort at Toledo, Jan. 12. Additionally, EMU's outstanding defensive effort against NIU marked the fifth time it has held an opponent under 42 points in 2010-11.

“D” IS THE KEY: Wednesday's game features two teams that pride themselves on defense, with Toledo and Eastern Michigan ranking second and third, respectively, in scoring defense in the Mid-American Conference. The Eagles have held 11 teams this year under 60 points, while the Rockets have accomplished the feat 15 times. Against Niagara, Dec. 28, Eastern's defense stymied the Purple Eagles, forcing 31 turnovers and 34 points. Meanwhile, Toledo held Northern Illinois to just 31 points in a 42-31 victory, Feb. 12.

SCHROCK EARNS THIRD PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR OF 2011: Senior Cassie Schrock turned in an impressive week in a pair of victories over Ball State, Feb. 16, and Northern Illinois, Feb. 19. For her efforts, she was named the Mid-American Conference Women's Basketball West Division Player of the Week, the conference office announced Feb. 21. It marks the fourth time she has won the award in her career.
For the week, she averaged 28.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists in 37.5 minutes of work. Schrock shot 48.6 percent (18-of-37) from the field, including 66.7 percent (4-of-6) from distance. The Wadsworth, Ohio naive turned in a near triple-double in the 81-73 victory over the Cardinals at Worthen Arena, collecting a personal-best 38 points to go along with eight rebounds and nine assists. Then against NIU, she followed it up with 19 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals in the win.

THE MOST RANDOM NOTE OF THE WEEK: They say that broadcasters do not effect the outcome of games, but we may need to reconsider that fact when looking at the Eagles in 2010-11. The Green and White are 6-1 when Ryan Wooley is behind the microphone on Eagle All-Access and they are 3-0 when Dan Gutowsky calls the action on the court. Meanwhile, Chad Bush and Jeff Fulton have carried the Eagles to just a 5-5 mark on the airwaves of WEMU (89.1 FM). Eastern Michigan is 4-2 when the game is not broadcast on any medium.

ON THE HORIZON: Things do not get any easier for EMU on Saturday, Feb. 26, as the Eagles travel to instate rival Central Michigan University. Saturday's contest marks the 67th meeting between the Central Michigan Chippewas and Eastern Michigan Eagles, who first met during the 1976-77 season. CMU leads the overall series, 36-30, but EMU has won 17 of the last 21 meetings dating back to the 2000-01 campaign.

RECORD RALLY: Things looked bleak in the opening half, as the Eagles trailed by as many as 15 points, 38-23, when Ball State's Ebony Jackson connected on a three pointer with 5:15 to go in the period at Worthen Arena, Feb. 16. However, the Eagles' defense would step up, allowing the squad to go on a 25-9 run to give EMU a 48-47 edge and its first lead since the opening basket of the game.
EMU would take the contest by a score of 81-73, marking the team's largest deficit overcome in a win this season. Previously, the Eagles' widest margin overcome en route to a victory was six at Kent State, Feb. 2.
