EMU OFF ON ANOTHER TWO-GAME SWING: The 2011-12 Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team will hit the road for another two-game swing, this time back in the midwest.
The Eagles, coming off a two-game road trip to the state of New York that saw them drop decisions at Syracuse, 84-48, Nov. 29, and at Colgate, 74-70, Dec. 1, are now slated to play at Drake, Dec. 8, in Des Moines, Iowa, followed by a matchup with Purdue, Dec. 10, in West Lafayette, Ind.
Those two games are part of nine straight games away from the friendly confines of the Convocation Center.
EMU enters Thursday's game at Drake with a 4-4 record while the Bulldogs are 5-3 after posting a 62-60 home win, Dec. 3, against Air Force.
LAMP(ley) LIGHTER: Senior guard Darrell Lampley (Linden, N.J.-Linden-Lakeland (Ohio) C.C.) turned in a career-best scoring performance at Colgate, Dec. 1, when he scored 37 points. Lampley made 12-of-26 field goal attempts, all 11 free throw attempts with two assists.
EMU AND DRAKE: EMU and Drake will be meeting for the third time and Eastern holds a 2-1 edge in the series. The two teams first met, Nov. 30, 1996, in Des Moines, Iowa and Eastern captured a 96-81 victory. Drake then made a trip to Ypsilanti, Nov. 15, 1997, and lost an 86-58 decision in the first year of the Convocation Center. The Bulldogs returned last season, Dec. 8, 2010, and edged the Eagles, 58-54.
LAMPLEY HITS FOR 37: When senior guard Darrell Lampley (Linden, N.J.-Linden-Lakeland (Ohio) C.C.) scored 37 points at Colgate, Dec. 1, 2011, it was the first 30-point effort for an Eagle since Derek Thompson scored 31 against Northern Illinois last season, Jan. 11, 2011. That 37 was the best since EMU's Carlos Medley tallied 42, March 11, 2010, in the Mid-American Conference Tournament in Cleveland, Ohio versus Akron.
STRICKLAND BREAKS OUT: Anthony Strickland (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Dearborn Heights Robichaud-Adrian College) turned in the best performance of his short EMU career with 11 points and eight rebounds in a 74-70 loss at Colgate, Dec. 1. The 6-foot-5 Strickland, who sat out last year as a transfer from Adrian College, has played in all eight games this season, but save his best for the Colgate outing. He made 3-of-6 field goals and 5-of-6 free throws in that 11-point effort against Colgate.
STRONG SYRACUSE CONNECTION: When EMU played at Syracuse Tuesday, Nov. 29, it was a homecoming for several members of the Eagles' basketball staff.

Eastern played its first season in 1897-98 and split games with Detroit, losing a 2-0 decision before coming back for a 4-0 victory. The Eagles are are 67-48 in season openers.
